INDEPENDENCE, Ohio - Complete County Corruption Investigation

Four FBI agents have entered the house of County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora Wednesday morning and took him away in handcuffs.

NewsChannel5 saw the agents enter his Independence home and drive him away in handcuffs. The agents arrived in two vehicles and knocked on the door for a few minutes before someone eventually answered. The agents then entered the home, and left with Dimora in handcuffs.

FBI spokesman Scott Wilson confirmed that they are making arrests this morning, but did not confirm if Dimora was arrested.

Dimora is considered to be the top target of the ongoing County corruption probe , especially after former County Auditor Frank Russo was charged in a 21-count criminal information last week.

Dimora is accused by federal prosecutors of using his public office to gain trips and cash.

Defendants who have already pleaded guilty to related charges told prosecutors they performed free home improvements and even provided Dimora with a prostitute during a trip to Las Vegas. But it was a halfway house in Cleveland that got the attention of the FBI in July 2009.

From a headline on a Google search (jimmy dimora ohio):

OH County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora (D) threatens reporter's wife ...

It wasn't one of those pesky Amish after all. Who would have guessed?

It also appears from the search that the original story was from the Cleveland Plain Dealer. I know nothing of the paper's reputation, but it would appear from this they are the typical left-wing rag.

LOL. Yes, the PD is a left wing rag. The publisher wrote a piece about corruption at the auditor’s office but only because the auditor wouldn’t lower his property taxes.

Hopefully, the crooked Cuyahoga County Democrat machine will be totally dismantled. These guys are all crooks - Dimora, Mason, Russo, the list is endless. They’ve run Cleveland and the surrounding communities into the ground over the last 30 years.

They must have needed three sets of cuffs hooked together to connect his arms behind his back.

Jimmy D’s a big boy.

Yes, I was thinking Cleveland Democrats are only being charged with a fraction of the crimes that have been committed over the years.

This is a HUGE story. After years of rotten Democratic politics in Cuyahoga County, the Democrat Party is rapidly imploding!

I grew up in Independence, Ohio, and still live a short distance away. It was a wonderful small town to grow up in, in the Fifties! Didn’t realize Fat Jimmy lived there!

Indeed! Seven other people were arrested including two judges. Who's going to fill the void? I can't name one Cleveland Republican. The new Cuyahoga County Council will probably be Democrat. Many Republicans ran unopposed in the primaries.

It’s a nice, scenic area with a lot of industry. My husband works in the valley and I was employed for years on Rockside Rd.

Geee .. no political affiliation.

You don't need to include political affiliation in Cuyahoga County. Every elected official is from the same party.

Two judges were also indited!

Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judges Bridget McCafferty, 44, of Westlake, and Steven Terry, 58, of Cleveland, were indicted Wednesday in the FBI corruption probe.

McCafferty faces a one-count indictment. McCafferty is charged with making a false statement to law enforcement. If found guilty, she faces a $250,000 fine and five years in prison. She was released on $50,000 bond.

Terry pleaded not guilty in federal court. He faces conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. Terry faces 20 years in prison and $250,000 fine. He was released on $50,000 bond.

McCafferty and Terry were taken by handcuffs into the FBI building in downtown Cleveland early in the morning.

According to the indictment, Dimora bribed McCafferty and Terry to influence litigation (cases) in their respective courtrooms.

Nancy Fuerst, the Presiding and Administrative Judge of the County Common Pleas court said, "We are saddened by the developments but the work of the court continues. We are aware of the charges and that the judges were taken into custody. We have contacted the Ohio Supreme court which will inform us how to proceed."

Ironically, McCafferty has a fundraiser scheduled for Wednesday evening.

McCafferty, who was elected to the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, is serving her second term as an elected official. She holds the distinction of being the youngest ever elected Judge in the Court of Common Pleas in Ohio, according to her website.

Eight people were arrested by the FBI Wednesday, including Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora.

The FBI, IRS and The U.S. Department of Labor are all involved with this ongoing investigation.
