There’s the reason I’ll never own a kindle. Real books don’t shatter.

I'm waiting for stupidity to become a protected disability. To be honest, it already, effectively, is, with it being subsidized through financial aid and other support for young single mothers.

And god forbid you call some child "stupid," as it may scar them forever, tarnishing their self-esteem.

No, I'm waiting for that EEOC lawsuit that challenges a firing, or even a lack of promotion because the person was unfairly punished for being stupid.

Pretty sure it's already happened, but I'm just waiting for some honesty.

I defer to your superiority, but what would you send to our troops that would make us hide our heads in shame that we are so uncaring of their wants and needs?

IIRC, the Marines took the view that a map with a bullet hole in it was still a map, but a computer with a bullet hole in it was just a paperweight.

Back in the day, pre-MREs, a can of peaches and a pound cake was da’ bomb...when our church makes up care packages, I tape a can of peaches to the bottom of a plastic tub (Zip-Lock), add in a package of shortcake (2 per) in a aired up Zip-Lock baggie toss in a plastic spoon, seal the tub with tape...instant dessert.

The taped down can prevents crushing the cake and the aired up baggie acts as a buffer because care packages aren’t always handled with care. The tub becomes the bowl, and can be used for storage later...reports coming back are positive.

These are mostly young guys so I toss in car, 4X4, gun, motorcycle, etc magazines, as many different current issues as I can find...they are great for a quick read and traded freely...even if there is a PX, BX or Navy Exchange handy where the troops can get them, free is still the best price and if there is no Exchange...score!

Let's just cut to the chase. I'm the smartest and coolest person here and the things that I do are the best and most interesting things that anyone could possibly do. Now that we all agree on that, we can have some profitable conversation.

And all my children/grand children are home schooled and are 9 grade levels above their peers in public schools. I have credit cards but pay the balances in full every month before they are even due, I'm a good marksman too, I can shoot a fly in the eye at 100 paces - while he is flying.

Feel free to add your own.

It seems like a lot of folks here have never heard the phrase, “It’s not the gift, but the thought that counts”.

“And some NY Yankees paraphernalia during baseball season.”

Being a Texas Rangers fan I can honestly say, I think I would rather have the Hello Kitty T-Shirts! LOL!

My son-in-law is a Marine and while he was in Iraq we sent him Rifleman magazines (he is a gun nut - worse than me even) and lots of baby wipes!

If you have ever been in a forward operating unit, you will understand the need and interest in BABY WIPES! They are like cigarettes in prison: pure Gold!

That’s good, but I will ask you what I asked Drawsing. What fabulous things would you send the troops that you feel the need to share with the rest of us to show your superior thinking?

Why do these types of threads always wind up with some people telling the rest of us how smart they are and how they do things?

Sharing information/knowledge is not a bad thing if one is willing to learn, and I'll accept there are many smarter people than me...since I have a reasonably thick skin, I can ignore attitude.

If you don't listen to how others do things, chances are, you might get into a rut and never learn something new.

Maybe how someone else does something is not better than how you do it, but sometimes it's nice to compare...lets you make sure you're doing it as well as you can.

So, I’m supposed to understand that you are trying to learn more about something by telling us how you do it?

Have you never shared notes while in school? Not everyone hears, recalls or evens thinks the same thing when the teacher gets on their roll!

However, very seldom were your notes worth a damn if you didn’t write anything down!

Instead of snarky questions about how you think this is a “one up” competition, why don’t you try learning what can be useful to our troops?

I really had not thought about the cellphone jammer until I read it on one of these posts!

No, I'm sharing information.

As a twenty year grunt living out of a ruck, I might have a little experience that may be pertinent...sometimes experience beats smart.

If the thread pi$$es you off so much, don't read it.

...and maybe go back to bed and get up from the other side...

Look, all I’m saying is that this thread was supposed to be about the funny things that are sent to troops and some people can’t resist the urge to use it as a place to tell the rest of us how smart they are.

And to think, in 1971 - 1974, while waging the war to end the extension of Communism in SouthEast Asia, I was beyond joyous to just get a letter from home!

My sister used to bake a cake with leaven, pull it out 15 minutes early, wrap it up good and ship it.

It would age with the leaven in transit, cure, and I would get it like it was 4 days old, but it was still chocolate cake from home! :)

I also thought that sending the Sunday Funnies was really good, sending a hometown newspaper, too

I offered to send a friend’s son a short wave radio so his kid could listen to Voice of America when over in Iraq...he looked at me and told me they had CNN, FOX NEWS and all cable stations!...am I that old??
