ST. PAUL, Minn.—Federal prosecutors say a 61-year-old Mankato man has been sentenced to a year and a day in prison for possessing three machine guns. The U.S. attorney's office says Ronald Willis Strand was sentenced Thursday in St. Paul by Judge Donovan Frank. In his plea agreement, Strand admitted possessing a .223-caliber Model A-15 machine gun on May 14, 2009, and possessing two other machine guns. Strand was arrested on May 13, 2009, on a state matter and police discovered the weapons when searching his residence. The Free Press of Mankato reported that Strand, a bail bondsman in Mankato, was arrested in 2009 after allegedly trading a bail bond for sexual favors and a stolen flat-screen television.

So does he bail himself out, or does he pimp himself out at the jail?

A year and a day for 3 counts of violating a Class 3 Federal Firearms permit?

He got off remarkably easy. He could have gotten

Violations of the Act are punishable by up to 10 years in federal prison and forfeiture of all devices or firearms in violation, and the individual's right to own or possess firearms in the future. The Act provides for a penalty of $10,000 for certain violations.[6] A willful attempt to evade or defeat a tax imposed by the Act is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $100,000 fine ($500,000 in the case of a corporation or trust), under the general tax evasion statute.[7] For an individual, the felony fine of $100,000 for tax evasion could be increased to $250,000.[8]

Okay, I'll bite. What the bleep is an A-15 machine gun? An AR-15 rifle, perhaps?

On what grounds is owning a machine gun illegal.

“On what grounds is owning a machine gun illegal.”

You need a $200.00 tax stamp for each one.

I was also wondering what an A-15 might be; it certainly doesn't sound familiar.

I remember the A-12 being in development...not sure what an A-15 is...maybe it’s 2.5 A-6s?

Where can I get a blue four door AK-47 like the one pictured on the bottom right? It would compliment my Frank Zappa Commemorative Telefunken U-47 (in leather!) nicely.

74 years ago, there was no such crime on the books. I wonder how many “criminals” have been “manufactured” since then?

Were these real machine guns or ones the ATF had to modify to make them double?

I thought the AR-15 was the semi-automatic, civilian model of the M-16.

I wonder if what he owned were functional M16s made from
AR-15s with M16 fire control parts and some machining..

BATF are quite touchy about those.

IOWs the guy is a tax cheat, like Sec. Geitner, not a violent criminal.

Since machine guns are so deadly how in the world was it possible to arrest him? (S)

The federal laws concerning fire arms should be a top priority for change. In order to full-fill your obligation for a well ordered militia, and to keep and bear arms the feds should require every household to have one fully automatic weapon with plenty of ammo. No tax stamps. No paper trail. Nothing but blackened military hardware.

How long is it going to take for Freepers to toss this guy under the bus?

Is a tax permit an infringement or not?

But Freepers have a tendency to run roughshod over those on the fringe and those will be the first ones that the government goes after. When the fringe is gone, who is left?

The American Revolutionaries were fringe also.
