Angry voters want to take it out on Democrats at record levels
Sept 4, 2010 | Ed Lasky

Posted on 09/04/2010 1:29:27 AM PDT by Rashputin

Wasn't Barack Obama supposed to unite us? Wasn't his speech at the Democratic National Convention a declaration that he did not see us as a "Blue America" or a "Red America" but as the United States of America? Fine words..but in the end just words as Obama might phrase it.

Now he and other Democrats will have to live with his handiwork: an enraged citizenry eager to take out their justifiable anger on those who led us into this morass: the Democrats.

From the folks at Gallup:

The 44% of Republican voters who say they are voting more against the Democratic candidate exceeds the level of negative voting against the incumbent party that Gallup measured in the 1994 and 2006 elections, when party control shifted (from the Democrats to the Republicans after the 1994 elections and from the Republicans to the Democrats after the 2006 elections).

In the fall of 1994, just prior to that year's elections, 34% of Republican voters said they were voting against the Democratic candidate rather than for the Republican candidate. There was a slightly higher proportion of negative voting in 2006, when 38% of Democratic voters said they were casting a ballot against the Republican candidate. ...

On a comparative basis, there is much less negative voting among Democratic voters this year than among Republican voters. Sixty-one percent of Democratic voters say they are voting to support their preferred party, while 32% are voting Democratic to reject the Republican Party.

These attitudes among Democrats are typical of what Gallup has found in past elections; the trailing/incumbent party's supporters have been much less likely to engage in negative voting than the leading/opposition party's supporters.

Some of us saw this coming.

Everything about Barack Obama's history showed him to be a person who scored political points in dividing people -- divide and conquer. He is ideologically driven to identity politics. He is a harsh political partisan (if they bring a knife to a fight, I bring a gun - what fine rhetoric. If only he had the same attitude towards America's enemies) and had the most liberal voting record of anyone in the Senate. The record was there to be considered before voting for him - but the media and Obama' shills cosseted and protected him.

So what sort of feeling has he created among Americans, along with such polarizing figures as Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid? Well, one in which voters are voting against the party in power (that would be the Democrats) at record levels (as opposed to voting for the Republicans). In other words, Obama and Company have split us and made us miserably angry and disillusioned at the same time.

Heckuva job , Barack.

I'm glad people are angry enough to throw all the democrats out and hope the public at large has finally learned the lesson that even a RINO will vote with conservatives more often than the most 'conservative' democrat. But it's an awful risk to have this SOB in charge even if the consequences of his being in office have a salutory effect at the moment. I'm not sure I trust the public to not return to their grazing, so to speak, and forget what the fascist democrats are really like and are really aiming for once the pain of the economy wears off in a decade or so. That's why it's critical to take back education and rid it of the indoctrination that has been the basis of fascist strength for the past forty years.

Both parties suck America.Throw them ALL out because it’s just a ping pong game at taxpayer expense. We need a total system change like what the FOUNDERS had in mind.

Both parties suck America.

The ONLY way to free ourselves from the present duopoly of power is instant runoff elections.

We need a Voters Bill of Rights.

The first item of such a bill HAS TO BE runoff elections or instant runoff elections for all public offices. Nobody should ever fear to vote his first choice, at least on a first ballot, and nobody should ever hold any public office with less than 50% of the vote.

There should also be a None-Of-Above choice on all ballots for public office and if that choice ever wins, then the other candidates should be barred for life from holding any public office and the parties sponsoring them should be barred for at least ten years from sponsoring candidates for that particular office. The penalty for running dead wood for public offices should be severe.

Another item on such a voters' bill of rights should be something which would eliminate voting fraud for all time and if that means getting rid of the secret ballot or at least limiting it somehow or other, so be it, we're paying too high a price for it. Somehow or other it has to be possible to check up on votes when there are questions or evidence of fraud.

There should be a provision that when a president is impeached and removed, his VP goes out the door with him and the office is either vacant until the next election or an emergency election is held to fill the office for the remainder of the current term. Granted removing a president should be difficult but it should not be impossible and if we couldn't remove Slick, we'd not have been able to remove Hitler or Nero either.

What happened in 98/99 was that Trent Lott simply refused to hand the presidency over to Algor with a year to go on Slick's second term, for obvious reasons. The situation should not be possible.

A person should need to be a US citizen for 18 years before voting in a US election. It should not be possible for a rogue political party to rule our land by simply importing large voting blocks for itself.

There should also be some mechanism to prevent utterly unqualified people from holding high offices. Certainly a candidate for president or vice president, or for US Senator or member of the House of Representatives should need to obtain the same basic and simple secret level security clearance which anybody would need to be a guard at the gate of any military base in our land. That isn't asking for much but it would have spared us from the last two democrat presidents.

There are a few other things you'd want but that's the main gist of it. There is also a question as to the extent the people should be voting on issues directly since we now have the technology to allow that while the founding fathers did not. You could get some of these evil social issues settled once and for all and out of politics, and you could limit the scope for corruption and bribery by letting the people themselves settle at least some kinds of issues.

But until we have a voters bill of rights we have to keep voting for republicans. The demokkkrats are MUCH worse and anything other than voting for pubbies elects demokkkrats to office.

As much as I’m excited about this falls election, can we really count on the Republicans to make the deep cuts in Gov’t that are going to be necessary? I doubt it.

It’s more than just Obama care that needs to be cut, it’s all of Gov’t spending across the board. Just get rid of the waste—maybe that’s easier said than done.

Obama is going to do for Republicans what Jimmy Carter did for them: Hand them the presidency on a silver platter for 12 years. Except Obama is so bad, he may hand it to Pubbies for 16 or 20 years.

Very well said in your post #1. Especially the point of regaining control of education; that is, teach the truth and eliminate all forms of indoctrination save, perhaps, love of country. I agree that the good fortunes for conservatives (and, of course, the country) could be all too fleeting given an electorate who could be fooled by Obama and the Demonrats..

Wasn't Barack Obama supposed to unite us?

Actually, I think 0's done a heckuva job uniting people.

More and more people are united in anger against sitting political elites and their arrogant waste of OUR dollars.

More and more people are united in a firmly held belief that, as a head of the country, 0 sucks.

People are increasingly united in the realization that the Democrat party plays the race card as often as it can, but is the first to work to keep minorities dependent on (entrapped on) the welfare plantation.

Ever larger numbers doubt that 0 has even the slightest clue as to how to craft foreign policies which are in the U.S.'s interest.

Greater numbers of people than ever before are genuinely ashamed of having voted for 0 and the clown.

How much more united can we get?

I'm not sure I trust the public to not return to their grazing, so to speak, and forget what the fascist democrats are really like . . .

I'm with you there. I'm not sure there has been enough pain to make the average conservative committed to never letting something like this happen again.

After the first American revolution, won in blood and treasure, the U.S. had very high expectations of their representatives, and a greater knowledge of the Constitution's tenets than the average voter does now. The people were watchful, and less tolerant of fools than now. Otherwise, a Biden, a 0, a Pelosi -- none of those would have made it past local dog catcher.

But now -- too much, too easy, no sacrifice. Like a kid who's had everything is quickly bored with the latest gadgety toy.

The key then will be for the nominee to not “balance the ticket” or else we’ll end up with somebody like the first Bush. Reagan could have picked someone stronger and still won. That was his biggest mistake, easy to say in hindsight.

--------------------

Our communist President is going full speed to run America into bankruptcy. Obama and his morons have spent 2 trillion bucks and we got jack to show for it! Nothing will improve until Obama is removed from office. Businesses cannot make any moves due to the uncertainties of this administration.

The process starts in November 2010. Conservatives must capture at least one house of Congress. Two would be even better. Only in this way will the madness stop. But then Obama will freak and start issuing executive orders like a Caesar and that will cause a Constitutional crisis. Or an October surprise happens. That's when they will show how desperate they are.

Many good ideas in your post #3; but, alas, that’s why they won’t be adopted: they actually address and solve problems, most of which have been perpetuated by the Demonrats to their advantage: such as no proof of citizenship required for voting and, as you pointed out, miniumum time of residency to vote. And many more.

Cuts in entitlement would be sure to cause an uproar among recipients. So would the majority of the electorate support draconian cuts? That definitely is in doubt. Some entitlements shouldn’t be cut, such as in Social Security except, perhaps, for requiring means test to receive it. To many low-income elderly SS is vital.

There’s a potential demoKKKrat wipeout of biblical proportions in front of us in two months. If we could somehow force pubbies to actually implement this voters bill of rights I mentioned there’d be a shot at reducing the dems to third party status.

The polls look bad for the Socialists?

Remember, 5%-10% of those Republicans queried tell the pollster they are Democrats and answer the questions as if they were Dems.

For that to happen, the Obama onion must be peeled back much further.

If wimpy academic lefties can take control of the fascist democrat party and bring back the pre-Civil War nobility as their heroes, tough conservative individualists can sure as hell take control of the republican party and put people like Jim DeMint forward to help us set it on the right path for a long, long, time.

That was the problem with things under Reagan, the old guard within the Republican party wasn't replaced and no one was trying to replace them. People figured they were a required part of a winning combination. We know better now, we know we can pick up the vast majority of those who call themselves independent if we seize control and clean house.

With hard work, nothing is impossible as long as you don't care who gets the credit, as they say. You know, simple solutions but not easy solutions. Take the damn party over and make it the party it should be, not just an alternative to disaster. JMHO

...there’d be a shot at reducing the dems to third party status.

I'm all for that. I wouldn't mind keep the Republicans in power indefinitely so long as they do the right thing. But, as I pointed out, doing the right thing may be almost as unpopular which a large portion of the electorate as doing the wrong thing as the fascistic Demonrats are doing.

Entitlements will either be cut proactively as part of a program to bring fiscal sanity to the government or they will be ended when the dollar collapses and the country slips into anarchy.

I believe the present state of our nation is the direct result of the Democrap Party implementing the socialist initiatives that have been festering in a file cabinet at the DNC for more than 50 years.

In a recent interview, Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN) stated how the Democraps have been trying to adopt the health care takeover for the last 60 years.

Czar B.O. did not cast one vote in the Congress to pass the Socialist legislation that is being laid at his doorstep. Czar B.O. is merely the Negro spokesman for the Democraps, so that the Democraps would brand any objector to their efforts as RACISTS!

Czar B.O. has the intelligence of a bag of rocks!

Entitlements won’t need to be cut once the dollar collapses. They can continue at the current rate because that will only amount to pennies on the dollar.
