This is a homemade video of geese flying over the Reflecting Pool on 8/28, in formation. The crowd cheers and claps. You can hear someone say, "This is God's flyover."

The legend of the Capitoline geese who saved Rome from invasion of the Gauls is well-known and accounts for its role in art as a symbol of vigilance. Later, in Christian iconography geese became artistic and theological symbols for providence (Divine), and loyalty (usually matrimonial). Western Europeans considered the goose, or more correctly flocks of wild geese, as messengers and gifts from God who in their migratory flights foretold seasons and predicted the weather.

Centuries ago (or so it seems) when I used to hunt geese from a skiff in the Great South Bay we were setting up for the evening (half an hour before to half an hour after dawn and sunset was the right time) and we were caught off guard by an low-flying pair of early flyers.

We swung and fired as they passed twenty feet overhead. Scared the poop out of them. Missed them both but they got us...

That day it was Geese 2 - Man 0.
