Meet Todd Young (Indiana-9 - opponent of Baron Hill)
American Spectator ^ | 8/27/2010 | Ryan Cole

Posted on 08/27/2010 10:11:06 PM PDT by Republican Wildcat

At a quick glance, Young, the Republican suitor for the seat currently held by Democrat Baron Hill, appears to have all the qualities of a promising politician. He is a 38-year-old father of four and a Marine-turned deputy prosecutor with television-ready good looks and natural charisma.

But Young is more about ideas than image. During a recent interview in his spare campaign office near Bloomington's downtown, he discussed policy and philosophy with a wonkish zeal.

This should come as no surprise since his education includes degrees from the Naval Academy and the Universities of both Chicago and London. Because of this brainy bent, Young seems cut from the same cloth as Indiana's Governor Mitch Daniels, Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, and other Republicans who are attempting to steer the GOP towards an intellectually grounded innovation agenda.

...

Given these beliefs and America's brewing battle between statism and free enterprise, Young is a timely candidate; his opponent, Hill, a perfect proxy for the policies now emanating out of Washington. ... He voted for Obama's health care overhaul even though it will hammer Indiana's prosperous medical device manufacturing industry with taxes and its expansion of Medicaid will likely necessitate the end of the Healthy Indiana Plan -- the state's popular consumer-driven health care program for low-income Hoosiers.

He voted for the stalled, but not yet abandoned, cap and trade energy tax despite the fact that its costs would disproportionally impact Indiana, which derives most of its electricity from coal.

I messed up the title - it should be Indiana 9, not Indiana 8. I’ve asked for this to be fixed.

I like this guy. He is pro-life (number one issue. I was sorta perplexed that the pro-life issue was towards the bottom of the issues page but as long as he was pro-life that is ok). He enlisted in the Navy and then received a commission to the Naval Academy and following graduation received a commission into the Marine Corps. His wife and he are also pro-abortion which is great. I really hope this guy wins!!!!

From the article,

And he [Baron Hill]is a vociferous critic of the growing resistance to the Democrats' agenda. He described opponents of the health care legislation as "political terrorists" and referred to those unhappy with its passage as "tired old people." And perhaps most infamously, after confiscating a journalism student's camera at a town hall meeting last year, he angrily informed his constituents that they would "not tell me how to run my office."

LOL, It appears that some tired old people, aka political terrorists just may run Baron Hill out of his office this November by electing Todd Young.

Great sign made by a vender between Seymour and Brownstown:

Will work for Food
After November 2!
signed
O’Baron Hill

We have very few Young signs in the county from the campaign. Baron is not well liked here in general. Young pretty well ignored us during the primary and won but a little publicity here would go a long way.

I’m seeing a heavy rotation of an ad from Baron Hill attacking Young on Social Security running on Louisville TV stations, using a clip of Young calling Social Security a “ponzi scheme.” It’s ironic...Baron Hill has repeatedly voted to raid Social Secuirty to use that money to pay for things other than what it is intended - Young calls it a ponzi scheme - and the reason it is a ponzi scheme is because Baron Hill and other politicians have made it that way and then attacks Young in a clip where he merely points that fact out.

I have seen no Young ads countering it. Hopefully he’ll get an assist from the NRCC at some point. They should run an ad just using that clip from Hill scolding people saying he is in charge and no one will tell him how to run “his” congressional office. Use his own words and behavior against him.

It makes no sense to me that district would continue to elect someone as liberal as Baron Hill (with only a 2 year reprieve when Sodrel won). Lee Hamilton (I still remember cracking up over an ad run by Jean Leising one year using the Twilight Zone music attacking Hamilton for spending money on ‘junk mail’) was a Democrat who held the district but of the older school, more middle of the road and his longevity probably helped get Baron Hill in there as a successor...but Baron Hill is very far to the left and arrogant...not at all representative of the 9th district of Indiana. It just makes no sense how he keeps getting elected there.

Baron is a habitual lyar. He tell the people one thing and does the opposite. After he was a basketball star and can do no harm.
