Britain will be forced to borrow U.S. warplanes to fly from the Royal Navy's new aircraft carriers because of defence cuts, the Daily Mail can reveal.

The Navy's Harrier Jump Jets - the aircraft that won renown in the Falklands conflict - are to be retired early leaving the two new carriers with no aircraft when they come into service.

Under the plans, the U.S. Marines would be invited to fly from the British carriers in joint operations and the Navy is also examining the prospect of leasing aircraft from the Americans

Sounds like they could use some mercenary aircrews and airframes...maybe another AVG?

Who knows...a Harrier could look cool with a tiger's mouth painted on it.

This is a political push to get the F-35 going as Obama wants to cut it.

I come from there and have served with the British army etc.

I can tell you that Labour did their very best to destroy the military, what they did was disgusting and we think we have problems with our budget.

yes they are getting two massive aircraft carriers but what is the use when they cut the money to have more planes.

The planes they have are over helping us and many of them have done way too may hours.

Hopefully the Uk can redeem itself by cutting their welfare , kicking out the third world and putting money back into their military

Instead of buying jets they are paying money to immigrants to have kids who hate them.
We are moving down the same track. Millions for welfare, illegals, anchor babies etc,but cut defense and space.

Damn shame really. The pilots still need to fly in order to maintain profienceny so they can easily transistion to their F-35s.

You mentioned that the Brits are retiring the Harriers. I guess the US will at some point, as well. It gave me great pleasure and pride recently to view a video of the successor of the Harrier - and THEN SOME. The F-35 STOVL. This aircraft does not do a vertical takeoff, but it does stop in mid-air and land vertically......and a whole lot more. Here’s the link. Thank God we haven’t completely thrown in the towel!

Seems to me that you can have one or the other: a big military, or a big national healthcare system. NOT BOTH!
