Shortly after launching his measures aimed at gipsies, Mr Sarkozy announced plans to target members of other minority groups, promising to strip French nationality from certain categories of foreign-born criminals.
Opinion polls this week showed that 79 per cent of voters approved of measures to dismantle the camps. Similar majorities backed other aspects of his law and order policy.
Mr Sarkozy has pledged that those foreign gipsies who had committed crimes would be deported to their countries of origin - mainly Romania.
There are estimated to be 15,000 gipsies and Roma of Eastern European origin in France. Some live in authorised encampments, but many are in squatter camps or abandoned buildings.

I can assure you without any fear of refutation, that once you get outside the ranks of the government ministries a few hundred French and Romanian Gypsies are NOT creating serious unemployment, loss of equity in the markets, or declining tax revenues.

I just was in Paris this year and it would be a shame for that beautiful place to be controlled by muslims after all the thousands of years of Western Civ. history and beautiful Cathedrals and art. They do need to crack down on graffiti also.

Obama has already done something far worse ~ his boys have broadcast the news that the TEAParty folks ~ MILLIONS OF THEM ~ are racists and violent (meaning dangerous).
When your heads of state start scapegoating minority groups that means the Depression isn't over, but is likely to get far, far worse.

I’m not French, but European (Swedish). I view France as a very close ally of my nation, just as I view America as a very close friend of my corner of the World.
Lately, friends of mine have been telling me stories of how they got robbed or pickpocketed in France while on holiday. In all of these cases they accuse Gypsies for some reason.
My idea:
Leave it to up to Sarko.
