Fear walks the streets of Phoenix (PC Hankie time: People who break the laws are feeling uneasy..)
CNN ^ | August 4, 2010 | Ruben Navarrette Jr.,

Phoenix, Arizona (CNN) -- It was an ethnic twist on an American classic, the kind of thing that some people consider appealing and others frightening. Pinto beans, diced tomatoes, salsa and jalapenos top a hot dog that's grilled to perfection.

It's 10 o'clock on a Saturday night at ground zero in the immigration debate.

The hot dog vendor, a woman from the Mexican state of Sinaloa, would normally be doing a brisk business. Her cart is across the street from a popular Latino dance club that used to be frequented by Mexican-Americans but is now normally crammed with Mexican immigrants.

No mas.

"The city feels abandoned," the woman tells me in Spanish. "Everyone has left."

It sure looks that way during a drive though the city's predominantly Latino west side, with its abandoned buildings, deserted homes and empty parks.

Since April, when Gov. Jan Brewer signed SB 1070 to punish illegal immigrants for the sins of the employers who hire them, estimates are that tens of thousands of illegal immigrants have left Arizona for a warmer climate in Utah, Colorado, Texas or New Mexico.

Last week, U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton struck down four of the most grotesque and illogical parts of the law, including the requirement that local police attempt to determine the immigration status of individuals they suspect of being in the country illegally and language making it a crime to solicit work.

I have been watching this drama play out...

This is pharmaceutical-grade Raza-propaganda, so wrong in so many ways. But here's just one:

"...when Gov. Jan Brewer signed SB 1070 to punish illegal immigrants for the sins of the employers who hire them...'

This is demeaning to illegal immigrants.

Why?

Because only robots, puppets, minors, and the mentally defective are presumed to be not quite up to legal and moral responsibility for their actions. If an individual is human, mature, and in his right mind, he is considered personally answerable for his decisions and behavior.

There are others, in addition to the foreign nationals who violate our border, who share in the responsibility: cost-cutting employers, "public servants" who turn a blind eye to access fraud, and corrupt officials who profit from massive legality, from the bribe-taking cop to the con artist in the White House.

And the individual border-violator is legally and morally responsible as well. If not, we are treating him as a pawn, a passive placemarker, a "thing" and not as a full person and the agent of his own life.

"Everyone has left."

No Ma'am. Not everyone. Just the criminals have left.

Navarette is a career apologist for illegal aliens. He’s a prime cheerleader for the Amerexico concept.

Dang, Ruben...editorialize much? So much for “objective” “journalism”.

Isn’t this one of the major reasons we have criminal laws in the first place - so people will be afraid of getting caught if they break them. It sounds like the Arizona law is accomplishing the purpose that laws are created for.

To be fair, it IS labeled at CNN as an opinion piece.

Great point that should be repeated loudly and often. This author tries to paint the picture of illegals not having any responsbility for their actions at all - as if tehy were forced to come here and work like slaves.

Most of them come here by choice - many even pay money to get here! The employers are not blameless but lets put the burden where it belongs - on the ones that came here illegally in the first place.

When I first skimmed the title “Fear walks the streets of Phoenix”, my mind immediately went to those Arizonians who have to endure horrific kidnappings and other crime brought about by invaders from the adjoining nation.

Does the MSM even consider writing articles from that point of view?

I cancelled my subsription to the San Diego Union Tribune because I cannot stand that race baiter Ruben Naverette. The newspaper called me and asked why I cancelled and I told them. Naverette was on the editorial board and this type of drivel was in the paper all the time. Good news is the SDUT fired his butt and we don’t have the daily editorials about the urgent need for “comprehensive immigration reform”(massive amnesty).

CNN makes it sound as though there aren’t any legal Hispanics in Arizona. Sounds like SB1070 should have been passed long ago.

The good citizens of Phoenix have been walking the streets in fear for years...fear of violent crime committed by illegal aliens. Let them have some of that fear they’ve been dishing out.

Government-media complex. Notice that nothing is said about how “illogical” sanctuary cities are.
