WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama will set a course Monday for the nation's changing mission in Iraq as the military prepares to end its combat operations there.
In a speech at the national convention of the Disabled American Veterans in Atlanta, Obama was to address the progress being made to meet his deadline of drawing down all combat troops by the end of the month. A transitional force of 50,000 troops will remain to train Iraqi security forces, conduct counterterrorism operations and provide security for ongoing U.S. civilian efforts.
"Make no mistake: Our commitment in Iraq is changing, from a military effort led by our troops to a civilian effort led by our diplomats," Obama said in excerpts released ahead of the speech.
Obama has said all U.S. troops will be gone from Iraq by the end of next year.

So the US will have to hire thousands of mercenaries to protect our diplomatic personnel and facilities and NGOs that are carrying out USG programs. Some Americans will be killed because of political partisanship. We still need troops for force protection.
They will be gone because 2012 is an election year. The State Department is already in the process of hiring seven to ten thousand security contractors and testified before Congress to get the funding.
If I hear this stern warning, "make no mistake", from this arrogant bustard again, I'll scream.
He prefaces sentences consistently with this phrase. Who does he think he is?
In other words, if we don't agree with the rest of his remarks or dictates, we are making a "mistake".
This is not a "habit" or a harmless "figure of speech" but a deliberate and ominous signal to we, the people, to obey him without thinking or disagreeing lest we are in profound error. Notice next time, it's not an "off-hand" phrase, but written into his prepared texts.
I find this repetitive figure of speech both revealing and threatening.
How many people do each of us know who repeatedly employ this pointed and dictatorial warning phrase in everyday business or social conversation with us?
Remember, with Obama and the subversive totalitarians who surround him.....it's always 1984.

Obama needs to be impeached, tried for treason and brought to justice.
Anytime obama prefaces a statement with “Make no mistake...”, you can bet it’s going to be a big mistake. It’s his version of, “read my lips...no new taxes.”.
Yesterday, several hundred troops came home from Iraq to Smyrna, Tennessee. Our son was among them. My nephew comes home today. They have been gone since February. We are very happy to have them home but I do wonder what Obama is up to.

The commitment is shifting or the tactic to realize the commitment is shifting? Oh yeah, it’s Obama so there never really was any commitment anyway.
They won't.
But most of them will. Almost all of them.
The drawdown is underway.
