Local news is showing that the Guard is refusing questions on survivors - which likely means there are none.
Looks like it hit over on the border with Ft Richardson.
I suspect the airshow will be CANX as well.
I’ll update as I hear more.
I’m waiting for an update. The last crash was an AWAC, with 24 crew lost in Sept 1995 and a flock of geese.
Prayers for the crew and their loved ones.
“C-5s were stationed at Kelly, next door. They used to fly over the drill pad blotting out the sky. This massive chunk of steel seemingly hanging in the air.”
I landed at Brown, San Diego, years ago to clear cusroms and taxied under the wing of a C-5 that was there for an air show.
They are one massive bird!
There was the Russian counterpart next to it and it was even larger!
Thanks for keeping us updated, Kathy. :(

I was stationed at Elmendorf in the mid 80’s working passenger service. I remember we’d keep our fingers crossed every time a C5 took off due to the mountains.
Did the early versions of the C-5 carry the PW=JT9’s or the GE CF-6?
Sorry about that.....
//wed keep our fingers crossed every time a C5 took off due to the mountains//
Same thing with the 747-100’s taking off out of SFO. Sometimes it looked like they only cleared Daly City by 500’-100’.
Thanks for understanding.
Lord let it not be a troop transport.
Prayers up.
I was flying a Cessna in a flight school back in 1992 in Anchorage, my regular instructor was not available and a returning instructor from Florida took over, she apparently didn’t get up to date on the new flight patterns and had me at the wrong altitude just across the inlet, I caught something out of the left corner of my eye, looked like somebody had just thrown a pair of darts at me, they were ascending fast coming from my 9 oclock as I was just making a shallow right turn, I immediately pushed down and right to get some airspeed.
They had just taken off from the AFB. Speaking of big planes we did have that monster Antonov land at Elmendorf years ago, I think it was the 124.
I was planning on going to the air show, I saw a pilot killed once at the Reno Air races many years ago.
From I recall they were F16’s, two of them together.
I don't know of any others.
Normally these problems in Alaska to our large transports are due to icing, but obviously not this time. Looks like either a massive bird strike or pilot error.
Sorry I meant the aircraft that almost collided with me were F-16’s, the plane that I saw go down at the Reno Air races was the Pond Racer.
