Just found out I can’t post ADN stuff....I’ll keep watching and just post my own words.
Very sad news. The Blue Angels will be here this weekend and the C-17 would probably have been doing demos.
Prayers for the crew and their families.
Update on the way shortly.......
Since the AWACS crash there is a very aggressive geese deterrent system, and I have not seen any geese in the air at all lately. We will find out what happened.
One less to fly over at the 8:30 time as they usually do every day since I moved to where I am 11 miles north of Wasilla. There has been for many years 3 or 4 C130-s, noisy!
In the last couple of years its been a mix of the old and the new, the C17 sounds like a couple hundred revved up Jaguar V12’s, weird harmonic kind of sound.
thanks for the updates.
Air Force says 4 on board the plane that crashed.
A link to some pictures...
A mother of a C-17 pilot on the base hadn’t heard who was onboard as of about 9:15p
The Arctic Thunder air show and open house is supposed to be this weekend.
ERIK HILL / Anchorage Daily News
A C-17 cargo plane crashed and burned on Elmendorf Air Force Base Wednesday evening July 28, 2010 according to the Alaska National Guard.
The plane went down about two miles north and east of the runways at left. Ft. Richardson is at right.
The only C17 safety blemish I was able to find was where one had a hard landing in Turkey. Gears and tires damaged and not much else.
That’s after loads of google pages.....
And pilot error in Afghanistan—gear up landing.
Official news release from earlier......

Thanks for the update.
Later read.
I missed getting a ride on a C-5 by thaaaaat much..
Update
JB Elmendorf-Richardson Commander just gave a news conference.
For 10 mins he carfully said exactly nothing.
Maybe tomorrow. I do find it hard to believe that after 4 hours, they would not even confirm status of aircrew.
Oh well - it is the new PC Air Force
Ouch. As a pilot friend of mine once said... "there's two kinds of pilots: those who have landed wheels-up... and those who haven't... yet." Ugh... there's that sickening "ohno second" right at the last moment when you realize that the gear isn't down, but there isn't time until the next second that's already happening... of top quality aircraft aluminum scaping on the tarmac.
Same as most aircraft...the higher you go the smaller the people on the ground appear!
Took a C-5 from Clark AFB all the way out to Diego Garcia back in the 80’s...
What a haul...Non-Stop...Like where were we going to stop anyway??? hehehe
These C-17’s appear to be a much nicer A/C...
How sad.
My prayers for the families.
Is that you over at TOL ;-)
Good friend was there and saw it. Lots of unhappy personnel running around!
Something like $20 million damage for turning off the warning alarm, if I remember correctly. Not good for one’s career.
