Elton John's choice words for boycotting musicians (rips musicians for boycotting Arizona !)
Arizona Daily Star ^ | 07/24/2010 | Cathalena E. Burch

Elton John didn't mince words in slamming his fellow musicians for boycotting Arizona over the controversial SB 1070 immigration law. From the stage at his sold-out Tucson Arena concert Thursday night, John savored a few choice, not-so-family-friendly words:

"We are all very pleased to be playing in Arizona. I have read that some of the artists won't come here. They are (expletive)wits! Let's face it: I still play in California, and as a gay man I have no legal rights whatsoever. So what's the (expletive) with these people?"

John has never been one to cave into political pressure from his musical colleagues. He ignored an artist boycott of Israel in June over the flotilla fiasco and played a show in Tel Aviv. He also played Rush Limbaugh's latest wedding reception in early June, which drew the ire of gays and lesbians. Limbaugh is vehemently anti-gay marriage; John is married to his longtime partner David Furnish

based on what I've heard his spending habits are, he'd play Afghanistan for the right price.

Money talks- BS walks.

Perhaps Mr. John, or Leach, or whatever his real name is, has taken the ‘just shut up and sing’ approach. I respect him for that.

“John is married to his longtime partner David Furnish”

Rush said that is a flat out lie.

He seems to take to heart the idea of Shut Up and Sing. He’s and entertainer, and he knows that people of all political views are his fans.

"Let's face it: I still play in California, and as a gay man I have no legal rights whatsoever."

Some readers might be confused and alarmed, thinking that California denies gays the right to trial by jury, peaceable assembly or security in their houses and effects from search. Rest assured this is not the case. "No legal rights whatsoever" is just a figure of speech meaning "exactly the same legal rights as everyone else, without exception."

A broken clock is right every now and then.

My favorite scene from the Adam Sandler movie “The Wedding Singer”

“Buddy, we are paying you to sing, not hear your thoughts of life”

Let's face it: I still play in California, and as a gay man I have no legal rights whatsoever.

You were making so much sense for a while, Elton, and then you go and say this. You have the right to free speech in California. Similarly you have freedom of the press, the right to pray as you choose, the right to not be forced to testify against youself and many, many other rights. You just don't have the right to "marry" another man. That is a far cry from "no legal rights whatsoever".

Yep, he's as gay as your gay apparel. The main difference between him and other gays is ( I believe ) he's not very activist about it. IOW, he does not PUSH his lifestyle in your face and force you to celebrate it if you don't want to.

...and Elton played the 911 concert for NY...when a lot of entertainers were too scared to come to NY. He played perfectly....a true master of his craft.

He even has the right to marry, as long as it’s to a woman.

“Limbaugh is vehemently anti-gay marriage”

I have never really heard Rush talk about this issue so I don’t know where the “vehemently” comes from.

I think Rush knows he doesn’t have much room to talk about the sanctity of marriage...
