Official: No White House pressure on (Shirley) Sherrod
Politico ^ | 7/20/2010 | Ben Smith

Posted on 07/20/2010 2:54:54 PM PDT by Qbert

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack this afternoon took responsibility for firing an official, Shirley Sherrod, whose appearance on video recalling her behavior toward a white farmer drew charges of racism, and whose immediate firing drew suggestions that the administration had over-reacted to an edited video clip.

A White House official told me just now that the White House backs Vilsack's decision -- but that it was Vilsack's alone. The official said the White House -- contrary to the Sherrod's charge -- did not pressure the Department to fire her.

Vilsack's statement:

Yesterday, I asked for and accepted Ms. Sherrod’s resignation for two reasons. First, for the past 18 months, we have been working to turn the page on the sordid civil rights record at USDA and this controversy could make it more difficult to move forward on correcting injustices. Second, state rural development directors make many decisions and are often called to use their discretion. The controversy surrounding her comments would create situations where her decisions, rightly or wrongly, would be called into question making it difficult for her to bring jobs to Georgia.

Our policy is clear. There is zero tolerance for discrimination at USDA and we strongly condemn any act of discrimination against any person. We have a duty to ensure that when we provide services to the American people we do so in an equitable manner. But equally important is our duty to instill confidence in the American people that we are fair service providers.

This stinking regime can’t even get their lies straight. Guess that’s what happens when lying comes so naturally for this bunch.

Somebody on an earlier thread said that Vilsack would end up being the one ordered to fall on the sword for this.

“Olbermann will probably declare her the worst person in the world tonight.”

He can’t. He would be a raaaaaacist if he did that.

Her statement that Obama is afraid of Glenn Beck is the best thing I’ve heard in months, confirming that our CIC is basically a devout coward.

I’m sure it’s just a missunderstanding and someone just misspoke. /s

:D

This thing reminds me of that scene in The Right Stuff where LBJ is in his limo having a tantrum because one of the wives doesn’t want to see him. That scene of the car bouncing around always cracks me up.

Isn't it curious how this administration is continually claiming people are liars?

It gets old. To date, I think the administration is batting .000 with such claims as further information comes available.

Being proven to be dishonest bears no sting for Obama and his clown posse.

That’s exactly what Glenn said tonight. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Of course it was. Otherwise, Obama would have had to make a decision.

“Why should I believe this “official”?”

I don’t either. Heck, I don’t even believe Ben Smith.

But it’s fun watching.

I think this is the first step in her getting her job back, i.e., “we never wanted her to go”...
