(CBS/ AP) Police say a man entered the Emcore Corporation, an Albuquerque fiber optics company, with a gun and opened fire. He killed five people and wounded four according to CBS News affiliate KRQE. Police say the shooter then apparently shot and killed himself.
The injured are in Albuquerque area hospitalis, according to KRQE. Police say the shooter is a former employee and the spouse of a current employee. According to KRQE, the incident is thought to be domestic violence. Police says the shooter has one previous instance of domestic violence.
Chaos unfolded at the facility as the gunman opened fire, sending employees fleeing for cover as police locked down the entire neighborhood.
Some nearby businesses have been put on lockdown and police are warning residents who live in the area to stay inside their homes. Police closed roads around Emcore, which is near Sandia National Laboratories on the city's southeast side.

Looks like the original linked article was updated to refer to the shooter as a male.
Well, which is it, gunman, gunwoman, him, her??? Looks like the “domestic violence” spilled into the workplace. Good grief.
Red card.

The gunman, 37, was a former employee and is married to one of the victims, police said.
how do you know it was a gun free zone?
Ahhh, the success of “gun free zones”(do I really need a /sarc tag?)
Most places of business are gun free zones.
It looks like CNN possibly changed the wording after you copied and pasted because now it says that the shooter was a male and one of the victims was his wife or girlfriend.
The posted article says they think the shooter was a woman, which is right?
It was a male shooter. As per breaking news on the Abq AM station.
The article indicates the perp is male.
Emcore is a publicly traded company. I am unaware of any publicly traded companies that, as a matter of policy, allow weapons intheir facilities, do in no large part to the companies that underwrite these kinds of corporate on-premises liability policies. Now, that isn't to say they don't exist, but if they do, they're the exception and not the rule. I would be HIGHLY surprised if Emcore wasn't the rule.
due in no small part to the companies..."
I have to stop typing with my feet.
We lost that many Americans doing their job (in Afghanistan) yesterday too. I’m beginning to think it’s more dangerous stateside.
Heard about this on my way back from a trip to the courthouse to renew my ccw permit. As they say...when seconds count, the police are minutes away.
