6 dead in New Mexico business shooting, police say

New Mexico authorities said a former employee shot and killed five people at a business Monday in Albuquerque before turning the gun on herself.

Police said officers responded to a 911 call at 9:26 a.m. (11:26 a.m. ET) that multiple shots had been fired. When officers entered the building, they found a total of 10 people shot -- four were dead, including a woman believed to be the shooter,

Six Dead in Albuquerque Office Shooting

Police Say Shooter Turned Gun on Himself and Died of Wound to the Head

(CBS/ AP) Police say a man entered the Emcore Corporation, an Albuquerque fiber optics company, with a gun and opened fire. He killed five people and wounded four according to CBS News affiliate KRQE. Police say the shooter then apparently shot and killed himself.

The injured are in Albuquerque area hospitalis, according to KRQE. Police say the shooter is a former employee and the spouse of a current employee. According to KRQE, the incident is thought to be domestic violence. Police says the shooter has one previous instance of domestic violence.

Chaos unfolded at the facility as the gunman opened fire, sending employees fleeing for cover as police locked down the entire neighborhood.

Some nearby businesses have been put on lockdown and police are warning residents who live in the area to stay inside their homes. Police closed roads around Emcore, which is near Sandia National Laboratories on the city's southeast side.

Looks like the original linked article was updated to refer to the shooter as a male.

FOX NEWS: 6 Dead, Including Gunman, in New Mexico Office Shooting

Six people are dead after a gunman opened fire at a New Mexico solar and fiber optics manufacturer.

Authorities released few details of the shootings on the campus of Emcore Corp., but said that six people were killed, including the gunman who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Four others were hospitalized.

It looks like CNN possibly changed the wording after you copied and pasted because now it says that the shooter was a male and one of the victims was his wife or girlfriend.

Emcore is a publicly traded company. I am unaware of any publicly traded companies that, as a matter of policy, allow weapons intheir facilities, do in no large part to the companies that underwrite these kinds of corporate on-premises liability policies. Now, that isn't to say they don't exist, but if they do, they're the exception and not the rule. I would be HIGHLY surprised if Emcore wasn't the rule.
