For the Jewish community, the election of Barack Obama has presented a major dilemma. The candidate they voted for is not the president they got, especially when it comes to Israel. Even if you could conjure up the ghost of John Foster Dulles, you could not find an administration more hostile to the Jewish state and more unconcerned about the anti-Semitic fallout from pursuing policies based on antipathy to Israel.
Obamas antagonism toward Israel has been eloquently addressed by such leading Democratic figures as former New York City Mayor Ed Koch and legal scholar Alan Dershowitz. Recently, actor Jon Voigt, in an open letter to Obama, poignantly took him to task for his hostility toward both Israel and Jews.

Joel Pollak sounds like he’d make a great Congressman. Does he have any chance of winning at all?
Fixed.
Unfortunately, the 9th is one of the most hostile anti-GOP districts in IL. Most GOP challengers get only around at or above 1/4th of the vote. The closest race in the last 3 decades was in 1996 with Sidney Yates’s last race, and he still won by a 63-37% margin over Joseph Walsh (where the likely issue was Yates’s advancing age of 87). This is the same Walsh running against Melissa Bean in IL-8 this year. The last Republican to win in the 9th was Robert Twyman in 1946 (Sid Yates beat him in 1948 to win his first term).
How could Jews have ignored Obama’s history of steering Woods and Annenberg funds to his Palestinian activist friend Rashid Khalid? Didn’t all the clues about his Muslim faith account for any doubts?
When the “Jews” of this district find themselves herded onto the trains leading to “resettlement” they will call out loudly to G-D, “how could YOU allow this to happen again?”
The answer will be forthcoming, “But this is what you voted for.”
And they WILL vote Dem again. They can never see they are their own worst enemy and blame everything on WASP anti semitism.
Given the Jewish voting record, they’ll choose J St.
Even though Pollak's chances are slim, due to the gerrymandered district he's running in, his media relations people are superb. He's already had the kind of national television exposure that most Republican congressional challengers can only dream of.
The Jews voted for a Muslim. They handed America a ton of trouble. His name tells the truth. The Obama voters were voting for a man that has his heart in the Muslim community.
Perhaps if he runs more strongly than expected, he could be a statewide candidate in the future.
As I constantly remind them, “Not all Jews are smart”.
The “jews” that voted for BARAK HUSSEIN OBAMA knew exactly what they were getting, imho. Liberalism has replaced their love of Israel AND their religion.
Even if you could conjure up the ghost of John Foster Dulles, you could not find an administration more hostile to the Jewish state and more unconcerned about the anti-Semitic fallout from pursuing policies based on antipathy to Israel.
I don't things are going to get together in the American Jewish community until the Orthodox rabbinate gets its act together and reclaims its original authority over the community. Barring that, we're waiting for Mashiach.
Yes, Joel has a slight chance of winning. In 2008, Rep. Schakowsky got 74% of the vote.
Illinois’ next statewide race will be the U.S. Senate race, in 2014, when Sen. Durbin can run for re-election. Instead of running statewide, Joel would be more likely to win a state senate or state rep. race, in 2012.
Really? Obama is the Jews' fault.
The Jews' fault, how very original.
After I posted comment #18, I remembered that, in 2014, Illinois will hold seven statewide elections. I hope that, if Joel loses, this year, he won’t run, statewide, until after he is a state legislator for at least six years. Attorney General Lisa Madigan was a state senator and Secretary of State Jesse White was a state rep.
