I recall a couple of weeks ago when we discussed Joel Pollak’s possible political future (on the thread which led off with the news that Alan Dershowitz, his Harvard Law prof, had endorsed him). One suggestion was that he might benefit from congressional redistricting and choose a more favorable district to run in in 2012. But statewide office might be a possibility as well.

Illinois’ next statewide race will be the U.S. Senate race, in 2014, when Sen. Durbin can run for re-election. Instead of running statewide, Joel would be more likely to win a state senate or state rep. race, in 2012.

After I posted comment #18, I remembered that, in 2014, Illinois will hold seven statewide elections. I hope that, if Joel loses, this year, he won’t run, statewide, until after he is a state legislator for at least six years. Attorney General Lisa Madigan was a state senator and Secretary of State Jesse White was a state rep.
