As an immigrant to this country I say, why don't we ask immigrants the same thing? Why can't american people and politicians demand that the new immigrants love and respect this country for what it is and not try to change it.

Afterall, it's us who have chosen to come here. We were not pressured, or taken from our native countries without our will. We came to the United States happily and eagerly.

Looking back at my life in a country that was once foreign to me, I say it is a pretty darn nice country with mostly very nice people who are eager to help someone who is new or does not speak the language etc.

In fact, sometimes I think American people bend backwards to help out and it has not served the country well. Take for example, the fading of English language. This should never happen. English is the common language for ALL people who are here from all over the world. But now I feel like I have to know Spanish to survive. That I feel is discrimination against non-Spanish, English speaking immigrant.

I think America and its citizens have the right and expectations that anyone who comes here come must immerse in various ways to be an American and not the other way around. We should ask immigrants to do a bit more for their adopted country.

We who have made America home are grateful for the opportunities and generousity that we have received from this wonderful country. I want to wish this country a great Independence day.

Most of the people that I have read about came to the USA to start a new life and build a country not go on welfare and tear it down.

Seriously, you’re posting an article on immigration by Jeb Bush?

“Jeb Bush Opposes Arizona Immigration Law”

And now a word about his (globalist) brother:

Thank you very much. Most of us come from immigrant families, but we assimilated. A great German American, Carl Schurtz, fight hard against other Germans who wished to make German an official language. He knew how beneficial it is to have a common language. Nothing divides people more completely than language, not even religion.

Why can we not ask immigrants to do better by their new country?

Why can we not leave the headline alone (as is requested) and editorialize in the post, instead?

The immigrant citizen can't be required to "do a bit more" for their adopted country. Who decides what "a bit more" is? This reference to the JFK (Ask not what....) shibboleth is collectivist in approach. All I ask of any citizen, foreign or domestic, is that he will respect the Constitution and understand the Declaration of Independence.

If within 6 months they are unable to operate a flush toilet, or say, "Toto, we're not in Kansas, anymore." Ship 'em back to where they come from.

One important difference, however, that separates immigration then and now: We native-born Americans are doing less than our great-grandparents did to welcome immigrants.

HORSESHIT.

My grandparents didn't have to press "1" for English. My grandparents didn't...My grandparents didn't... My grandparents didn't...

Right, we need to spend more to make immigrants feel comfortable.

Thanks Jeb. Hope you weren't planning on running for president or anything like that.

Oh, we can ask. But the answer I suspect we will get, when we set the most miserable example imaginable, with our gansta rap, our white bread wannabees, “American Idol”, and the obsession with denigrating our own culture, is something we probably don’t want to hear. When the most idolized elements of society are bad boy basketball players who are alternately charged with rape and sink lots of baskets, meanwhile making top .0001% salaries without a moral care on earth, or are singers or actors who in the main contribute nothing but derivative crud to the culture, we should not wonder as to the results.

Because a lot didn't come here for the same reasons you and others like you did. And they do not see this country for what it is.

I saw a really STUPID commercial today for some human rights group. A kid running from a jeep with guys holding guns and hooting and hollering at him. The jest of it was we should let all these poor kids in, and the last line to top it off “doesn't everyone deserve a safe place to live?”

Lost on these idiots! is the fact that is they are so concerned about a safe place to live, they wouldn't be advocating letting all the violence in and making America unsafe, but working to make Mexico clamp down on their own violence and cleaning up their own country! Why spread it here and do nothing for those that are left there?

Frank: Thanks. You are dead on. Our military should consider live fire training on that border/ AO. The clowns in the photo are for real. We have MS 13 types in Nashville, and; we have had them for awhile.
