The Ohio Democratic Party tried unsuccessfully this week to get information on all people licensed to carry concealed weapons in the Buckeye State.
The state party sent letters to Ohio's 88 sheriffs requesting the names and addresses of permit holders and the dates the licenses were issued. Ohio has about 211,000 permit holders.
But neither the Democrats nor any other political party can get that information. The records are exempt from the public record laws. The only public access was given to journalists when then-Gov. Bob Taft signed the law in 2004.
Lorain County Sheriff Phil Stammitti, a Democrat, denied the request Friday.
"I must also advise you that the information you are requesting is NOT a public record and CANNOT be released," Stammitti wrote in a letter to the party.
The Democrats intended to target people who support the Second Amendment -- the constitutional right to bear arms -- with campaign information, said party spokesman, Seth Bringman.

Yeah, right! I believe you! (NOT)
The democRATS probably wanted the names to add to the airport no-fly/terrorist watch list.
I find it very troubling that the NRA would endorse Strickland no matter what he has signed.
Maybe someone should post the home addresses of these democrats and the addresses of where their children go to school.
Not saying that it is the right thing to do, but let them have a taste of their own medicine.
I find a lot of what the NRA has done lately to be troubling,to the point that I am considering cutting up my lif membership card and mailing it back to them.
Publish the names and addresses of the newspaper writers and editors who support this crap. It’s long past time to fight back and make em feel it.
Well, I intend to “target” them right back with phone calls, emails, and anything else I can think of.
This, of course, is the same party that screams about privacy of the bedroom to justify abortion (which isn't even remotely the same thing, of course). Truth of the matter is, Democrats want nothing private -- so they can control everything.

Since I'm trapped in the Peoples Republik of Illinois, we peons have no such 'license thingy'. That being said, if we DID, I'd like to know who DOESN'T have a 'gun license'. Like that Daley toady and dope, Richard Roeper.
Then I'd make up about 1,000 flyers and pass them out on 63rd and King Drive, and other such 'nice areas' in Englewood and on the West Side. And to further help the poor folks in these areas 'understand the Flyer', I'd even HIGHLIGHT all the libtard 'journalists' who work at the alphabet networks and the Chicago Trib and Chicago Slum-Times
I'm suuuuure there'd be no complaints of their addresses being made public since these journalists believe in the 1st Amendment and are oh-so anti-gun. In fact, they should be proud of my efforts to point out that THEIR HOME is a Gun Free Area ;-)
:-)
You type faster than I do.
What if the GOP decided to get the records of all those with AIDS to “get out the vote”?
What if the GOP decided to get the records of all those with AIDS to get out the vote?”
NObama is asking-soon to be a demand in your ‘HELLTHCARE bill” —that EVERY SINGLE ONE of us AMERICANS get a test for HIV/AIDS. Wonder if he is going to those living under the bridges first?
I wonder why the dirty ‘rats want that information?

In New York state some ass put allk the carry permit holders addresses online. Their intent is to have these people harassed. Unfortunately the state troopers are required to make the list public record in this state.
information on all people licensed to carry concealed weapons in the Buckeye State... Ohio has about 211,000 permit holders... Lorain County Sheriff Phil Stammitti, a Democrat, denied the request Friday...
