New poll shows tie in the race for Texas governor
ConnectAmarillo ^ | 06.22.2010 | ???

A new poll shows Gov. Rick Perry and Democratic challenger Bill White are tied in the race for Texas governor.

Public Policy Polling polled the race 4 months ago, in that poll, former Houston Mayor Bill White was trailing behind Perry 48-42. The new poll now shows that White is tied with Perry 43-43.

According to the poll only 36% of voters in the state like the job that Perry is doing while 49% disapprove.

White is better known and like than most challengers, 37% of voters have a favorable opinion of him, 25% unfavorable.

In most states, in this Republican election year, not only is the Republican leading among independents, but he is drawing more crossover support than the Democratic candidate. However, that is not the case with Bill White, as he did in February's poll, by garnering 15% of Texas Republicans to Perry's 10% of Democrats.

Both candidates have seen more of their own party's voters go into the undecided column, bringing their partisan support from the mid-80% range to the mid-70% range, with White still holding more of his own base than Perry does.

In almost every race in the country right now Republican voters are more unified around their candidates than Democrats are and independents are leaning toward the GOP. Texas is running against the national grain on both of those counts- White is winning 15% of Republicans while Perry gets just 10% of Democrats and White also has a 42-36 advantage with independent voters.

Republicans have held the Texas governorship since George W. Bush ousted the late Ann Richards 16 years ago.

“There are some theories that Dan Patrick may run for it if Dewhurst doesn’t.”

Texas Rail Road Commissioner Michael L. Williams has also indicated that he would run - even if KBH doesn’t quit.

I don’t like any of them.

Oh please tell me Texas is not either this stupid or this far GONE...?!<.i>

If I had to pick one, I'll go with the "stupid",
but I actually think it's a combination of both.

"Perry should be walking away with this. What’s up with that?"

~~~~~~~~
Perry's damned Trans-Texas Corridor scam may yet put our lovely state under the thumb of leftists...
Many Texans (even conservative ones) now hate RINORicky with an unforgiving passion.
There is a concerted effort in the state run media to paint current events as being positive for obama (Rush Limbaugh stated this today also) and my sources in NY (working for the enemy) says that this polling data is part of that propaganda push. rasmussen is showing obama trending up significantly. No way... reality 101. Thugonomics at play.
That would almost be enough to make me vote for the kenyan.
Please. Anybody who could say such a thing cannot be taken seriously.
I’m from the Houston area and Bill White will NOT get my vote. Just thought I’d share that with ya. Have a great day!
Very serious.
perry is just a slow boat to where the kenyan is taking us.
At least the kenyan is waking people up to our predicament.
Bad move Ricky.
I did not mean you are not serious. I just don't take you seriously as a conservative. I'd sooner vote for Satan as Obama. The idea of voting for Obama over Perry is ludicrous. What's the point of "waking us up" when he's destroyed the Republic?
Perry's big strength has been that he's not the other guy (or woman as the case may be).
You're right that it's not a very powerful position but as we saw with Richards they can fill the bureaucracy with some real stinkers and generally gum up the works.
Not that mimbo did us any favors in that regard but it is a question of degrees....
Perhaps you can provide details of where perry is taking any actions fundamentally opposing anything the kenyan is doing. Not election talk, but real opposing actions.
perry is a democrat, cut from the same cloth as the kenyan, who realized to get elected in Texas, he would have to run as a republican. Because most Texans realize that, he couldn’t win the governorship with a majority of the vote, only a plurality. (Why do you think the current election is even close)
While you are giving those details, maybe you can explain how one of the first things he did after assuming the governorship was to give Texas “hate crimes legislation”, how “pro-business” perry’s changes to the franchise tax is screwing over businesses in Texas with a tax, not on income but on gross sales, how he reneged on previous agreements with insurance companies in Texas, his cronyism in awarding state contracts (particularly TXDOT dealings), how he ruled by an obamanesque decree that all young girls would have to receive the unproven HPV vaccine (incidentally, this was another case of cronyism), and last but certainly not least, please explain why he has taken a stand against Arizona’s new anti-illegal immigrant law.
No, I prefer that we confront liberalism, not let it simmer in the pot as you apparently do. Why can’t we have true conservative republicans instead of a watered down progressives.
Though it’s wasted on you, I think in the long run, the kenyan may have been the medicine this country needed. Hopefully, he’ll polarize the country sufficiently to make us not accept limp wristed republicans who are slowing letting us slide into hell.
If obama kills the country before we can recover, well, then we waited too long. Otherwise, anything he does can be undone by electing true conservatives. If we elect more like perry, then we have sealed our fate.
Bill White can do little except dismantle some of the crony-ism that Perry has established - I’m not at all sure that’s a bad thing.
What makes you think White wouldn't put in his own set of ACORN approved cronies? Anyone who would consider voting for the spendthift sactuary-city mayor is probably more comfortable on DU than here.
Exactly. If White wins, he will be a slave to his DNC masters.
DU?? Really??
Kind of in keeping with your name sake, you quoted something I didn't say. (actually, that sounds rather like a DU trick to me)
I went back and looked at every post I ever made here and I've never said I would support a democrat for anything. I, for sure never said I would vote for white. Indeed, in a previous thread, I said I would vote for neither of the above rather than vote for perry or white.
What you perrinistas can't understand is that your candidate is so unacceptable to the voters, voting for a democrat isn't that big of a leap. That's all that I was saying when I said perry vs the kenyan would almost make me vote for kenyan. I'll splain it for you Lucy. When someone says that something will almost drive you to do something else, that doesn't mean they'll do the latter, only that they really don't like the former. I know that cuts you, but there are a lot of out here that feel that way (hint: perry didn't win a majority for gov last time and it's close this time)
We waited too long. And he is not even halfway through his term.
Otherwise, anything he does can be undone by electing true conservatives.
Not gonna happen. Guys like you (who probably voted for the Kenyan instead of McCain) elected someone who has wielded more power as president than anyone in our lifetimes. Technically, Obama should have been stopped when it was clear the people were not on board with Health Death Care. But he passed it anyway. He has the entire Rat party and the media in his thrall. Yes, he awakened the conservative movement, but it is too late.
Conservatives will do well in the next election cycle, but it is too late. I would not mind if you voted for a write-in or third party candidate over a RINO like Perry. But if you would vote for Obama over ANYBODY, you are a fool. Perry may change his positions based on whatever poll he takes; but Obama is a frickin' dictator, who does his will regardless of what WE the People think. Enjoy your re-awakened but dead republic.
pleases stop peddling your stupidity or astroturf for the Dem party cause.
The 2010 Gov will oversee the house districting based on the 2010 census .
You think its a good idea to let the ACCORN run Dem party control it.
Please spare us your pile of BS.
