Shattering Glass Ceilings
Newsweek ^ | June 15, 2010 | Jesse Ellison

When President Obama issued a statement last week marking the 47th anniversary of the Equal Pay Act, the federal legislation that sought to end gender-related wage discrimination, he noted ongoing wage inequities and the fact that women continue to earn only 77 cents for every dollar earned by men. ...

This article is another incredibly biased piece of journalism from Newsweek. Although I do not doubt the existence of bias and perhaps the merit of the Novortis cases sited, the evidence about the level of bias and punitive damages is bias. Punitive damages in the Novortis case are evidence of the worst kind of legal lottery. The article does not mention any studies that refute the idea that women in general suffer workplace discrimination. It is journalistic malpractice to ignore a strong body of evidence contrary to the author's opinion. Balancing family and work is difficulty for everyone involved including both spouses, children, and employers. The legal lottery and the Equal Pay Act will destroy economic activity, denying many individuals the opportunity for satisfying careers. Employment will move to countries without these onerous and unfair restrictions.

Utter crap. Anyone who has done a serious study on this knows this is a lie.

And thanks to liberal policies there are thousands of men who receive NO salary because they are out of work!

I have seen studies that show when adjusted for education, years in the workforce, and career choice, women earn more than men.

The trouble with stupid journalists is that they expect women who choose to work at the cat shelter and take 6 years off to earn the same as a guy who chose to be an engineer, and didn’t take a day off for a decade.

(6 year off for child-rearing, usually)

77 cents on the dollar is a lie.

Women usually work lower paying jobs than men. They also work fewer hours than men. Thus, men make more overtime pay.

This is yet another, but successful, feminist lie.

No wonder the sissy boys at Newsweak regurgitate it.

As Thomas Sowell, I believe, has pointed out, were it true that businesses could get the same value by paying only 3/4 pay to women compared to men, businesses would be falling over themselves to employ women. No business is going to pay a 25% premium for men just to employ men, all else being equal.

Further, I believe there are studies that show head-to-head in careers and longevity in that careers, women earn more than their male counterparts.

It’s “funny” that in 47 years, the differential cited by these experts hasn’t budged.

and the fact that women continue to earn only 77 cents for every dollar earned by men. ...

Horsesh*t. This canard has been debunked over and over and it STILL keeps popping up for every “awww” moment.

Liars.

77 cents horsecr*p is like the “2 million homeless”, or the “47 million uninsured”. Pure BS that gets passed around as fact. I hate that. To (mis)quote Mr. Moynihan, you are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts.

The experience of the female Novartis employees, though, is not unique. College-educated women make 20 percent less than men from the moment they enter the workforce, according to a 2007 study from the American Association of University Women.

The AAUW has zero credibility. A for demagoguery, F for competence.
