It will be "We Pay - We Say. You aren't allowed to pay -You can't say"
Do your push ups, drink your prune juice.....
As the owner of Weyco Inc., a health care consulting company, Weyers can do what he damn well pleases and require his employees to practice healthier lifestyles.
Guy sounds like an insufferable jerk.
Wow. I personally think it’s fine for an employer to be able to choose and keep employees based on looks. If I ran a store selling weight loss products, for example, I wouldn’t want obese people working for me because it would obviously be bad for business. This, however, goes so far beyond that. He’s doing it because he thinks he can decree “healthiness,” and to extend it to SPOUSES? Sheesh, what a piece of work.

Well, yes, that would be the Nazi approach (literally). The freedom and market oriented approach would be tort reform, HSA's for everyone, no such thing as an insurance company as we now recognize them, and the death penalty for any politician who even so much as suggested health care regulation.
This guy sure has a lot of time to work out and play. A whole lot more than I do.
Always wondered where all that time came from for jogging and cycling and golfing and, and....
>> “I pay, I say. If you pay, you say.”
What a jackass. Does he also tell his employees how to spend their paychecks? After all, he pays that too. Just as there is no such thing as “government money”, there is no such thing as “employer-paid benefits”. The benefits are part of the compensation package.
Now that does mean that if the cost of the health care goes up, he can choose to not pay for the increase, but he doesn’t own his employees.
This trend towards the government and corporations acting as if the rest of us are feudal serfs has got to end!
“Dave, I’m sure you’re aware of company policy about risks to health, and now that you’re approaching 50, well let me put it to you this way. Either you get younger or I’m afraid we’ll have to let you go.”
“John, statistically, people from your race tend to be short lived, with unacceptably high numbers of early deaths by gunshot wound. And even though you were raised in a good home, and excelled at school, I’m afraid these statistics just say that any day now you are going to be gunned down while selling crack cocaine. So I’m afraid we’re going to have to let you go.”
“Mary. What can I say? Women are unhealthy. You’re fired.”
Is this the future of obammacare?
He’s been an asshole for years evidently. This isn’t the first time health nazi has gone over the line.
So does he pay 100% of his employees health ins? My company pays for some but I also pay every week. We were told if we smoke or not take a yearly physical our premiums may go up.
Another corporate nazi. Yes, probably a “libertarian.”
I have no problem with those who lead “unhealthy” lives (smoking, overweight, skydiving, auto racing.etc) paying more for health insurance than others. But *firing* such people goes too far.
“Weyers is a trim man of 76 who said he eats healthy and works out five or six times a week. He was a runner for 40 years before knee problems slowed him down.”
Wow, seems his lifestyle has caused potential healthcare expenses.
The problem here is the fallacy of expecting employers to pay for health care. Health care has nothing to do with employment. If I were to write a healthcare bill, it would discourage or prevent employers from providing health care insurance. It would at least abolish the discriminatory practice of “groups”. It is a personal responsibility, not a government or a a big-brother corporate responsibility.
Isn’t this the jerk that fired people for smoking while OFF the clock?
Yeah a total control freak.. and I also think he is somehow trying to push the limits to see what people will tolerate.
I don’t care if I was making 20,000,000 a year, I would walk right out of a job like that. No job is worth my freedom.
And you are right.. this is EXACTLY where National Health care is going to lead us all.
Let’s see him try to fire some pole smoker or colon cowboy over his bullshit philosophy.
Any employee shown the door could have a case for intentional infliction of emotional distress. It’s easy to pick the jury, too — just take fat people.
I see nothing wrong with this. It’s free enterprise, it’s his company, if he doesn’t want fat slobs chain smoking and eating KFC for lunch good for him, it directly effects his costs when paying for benefits.
On the flip side where does it stop, will Kroger and other grocery stores cell buyer information, ie, this guy buys two boxes of twinkies a week and a case of PBR every other day and a carton of smokes?
What to do ... ? / wringing his hands
A society controlled by lawyer tyrants insists on Christ like perfection or money damages for the margin.
