Obama, Pressed to Get Tough on Oil Spill, Talks About ‘Kicking Ass’
CNS News ^ | 6/8/2010 | Tom Raum

Washington (AP) - President Barack Obama says his talks with Gulf fishermen and oil spill experts are not an academic exercise. They're "so I know whose ass to kick."

One target for the presidential foot: Tony Hayward, the embattled chief executive of BP.

Obama was asked by Matt Lauer of NBC's "Today" about Hayward's past comments that "I want my life back," that the Gulf was "a big ocean" and that "the environmental impact of this disaster is likely to be very, very modest."

"He wouldn't be working for me after any of those statements," Obama said, according to excerpts released by NBC.

He strongly defended his role in dealing with the crisis, including his three visits to the region since the spill began.

"I was down there a month ago before most of these talking heads were even paying attention to the Gulf," Obama said.

Obama said he has talked to a variety of "experts" on the oil spill in addition to the fishermen.

"I don't sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar, we talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers -- so I know whose ass to kick," the president said.

I wonder if Al Sharpton will accuse him of “talking like a gang leader.”

Yea, but what would most of us give to get in line to take a 5 minute challenge with this a-hole.

I'd give just about anything I have to get a legit and honest shot at whoopin' his arrogant a$$

If the BP chief had been partying and golfing with his elitist pals and took multiple vacations during the last 50 days, the BP board of directors would have fired him for negligence by now.

Media fail repeatedly to mention the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 giving POTUS complete responsibility for immediate action in cleaning up an oil spill.

Rachel Maddow, "But that leak is not the disaster itself. The disaster is what that leak has done, and the way we are dealing with what that leak has done, the way we are dealing with the oil that is in the gulf now is frankly a disgrace... the low tech, no tech lackadasical pitiful measures being taken to deal with the spilled oil. The pathetic efforts to deal with the spilled oil and to protect the land and shore communities and the wildlife, they are pathetic for a reason, a reason we are trying to shine a light on." Rachel Maddow- Disgraceful response to the oil itself

This is what happens when an un-manly man tries to prove himself. It isn't pretty.

How could a new president riding in on a wave of unprecedented promise and goodwill have forfeited his tenure and become a lame duck in six months? His poll ratings are in free fall. In generic balloting, the Republicans have now seized a five point advantage. This truly is unbelievable. What’s going on?

No narrative. Obama doesn’t have a narrative. No, not a narrative about himself. He has a self-narrative, much of it fabricated, cleverly disguised or written by someone else. But this self-narrative is isolated and doesn’t connect with us. He doesn’t have an American narrative that draws upon the rest of us. All successful presidents have a narrative about the American character that intersects with their own where they display a command of history and reveal an authenticity at the core of their personality that resonates in a positive endearing way with the majority of Americans. We admire those presidents whose narratives not only touch our own, but who seem stronger, wiser, and smarter than we are. Presidents we admire are aspirational peers, even those whose politics don’t align exactly with our own: Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, Harry Truman, Ike, and Reagan.

But not this president. It’s not so much that he’s a phony, knows nothing about economics, and is historically illiterate and woefully small minded for the size of the task—all contributory of course. It’s that he’s not one of us.

(Dorothy Rabinowitz)

This is just another reason why the Obama regime cannot attract talented people.

It's partly the crudeness of it all, but it's also the uninformed direction they want to go. Sometimes the abusive and poorly spoken leader who gets the job done while the mealy-mouthed lawyerly type sends the windows and orphans to prison and executes the babies.

Given his attitude toward newborns there's really no way Obama can be trusted to deal with human beings who know how to get stuff done.

Yep- zerO has not yet even talked directly to the CEO of BP

but he and his tellyprompter have postured in front of TV cameras, telling everyone he’s in charge from day 1, threatening vague parties with criminal prosecution by General Eric the red Holder, telling BP how to treat their shareholders and run their company, and now threatening to “kick ass”

day 50 and counting

obama and his posse are purposely hyping the oil spill so he doesn’t get impeached over the job offers to other politicians.

“Angry” 0bama isn’t going to get anything fixed. The government’s job isn’t to rail against BP, but to lead efforts to clean up what is already despoiled, and to institute efforts to prevent further ecological damage. Why aren’t berms being created on the shores? Why aren’t efforts being coordinated to bring in tankers and equipment to collect the floating oil slicks.

0bama is failing to lead efforts to improve the situation. Complaining as to how he is misunderstood doesn’t solve anything.

I’ve been waiting for Zero to walk out to the sunken oil rig raise both hands and stop the flow of oil.

I guess this “high one” wants everyone to suffer a little longer, until big oil is globalized.
