49% Say Pro-Palestinian Activists To Blame in Gaza Ship Incident
Rasmussen Reports ^ | June 7, 2010

Forty-nine percent (49%) of U.S. voters believe pro-Palestinian activists on the Gaza-bound aid ships raided by Israeli forces are to blame for the deaths that resulted in the high-profile incident.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 19% of voters think the Israelis are to blame. Thirty-two percent (32%) more are not sure.

But 51% say Israel should allow an international investigation of the incident. Twenty-five percent (25%) agree with the Israeli government and reject the idea of an international probe. Another 24% are undecided.

In the May 31 incident, nine people were killed when Israeli commandos raided an aid ship headed from Turkey to break the Israeli blockade imposed on the Palestinian Gaza Strip.

While a number of countries have called for an international investigation of the incident, the Israeli government is skeptical of such probes arguing that the participants are often biased against the Jewish state.

Nearly half (49%) of U.S. voters agree that, generally speaking, most countries are too critical of Israel. Twenty-one percent (21%) say those countries are not critical enough. Seventeen percent (17%) say neither.

The survey of 1,000 Likely U.S. Voters was conducted on June 3-4, 2010 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

At the United Nations and in other international forums, the United States often finds itself as one of Israel’s few defenders, but just 24% say, generally speaking, America is too supportive of Israel. Thirty-three percent (33%) say the United States is not supportive enough, while 32% say neither is the case.

There are millions of sensible and patriotic Americans, and we elected Obama/Biden? (Biden wanders off the reservation and sometimes supports Israel's right to self defense. That must irk Obama.)

Rasmussen consistently asks topical questions, phrased in a reasonable way, and he doesn't poll only Democraats. I salute him.

The results show that Rasmussen is dipping into the left pool again. I think the real numbers scare the hell out of him.

Pretty good numbers, considering that 99% of the press and our own government have steadily asserted the opposite.

There was a window of opportunity to dump the UN, thanks to the explosion of Saddam’s Oil for Food scandal, but Bush blew that chance. Now people have forgotten that whole business, and how corrupt and biased the UN is.

All considered, the numbers are surprisingly good.

The results of this poll are incredible to me. How can a sane person not understand that israel has the right and the responsibility to protect its citizens?

I do not think that there is any doubt that the ship in question should have been searched for weapons. My problem with this incident is that I do not underestand why Israel didn’t just sink the damned boat instead of risking the lives of their Seals.

Israel has had to fight for its existence since the Balfour Declaration. There has never been a moment when Israelis were not being fired upon by its neighbors and its civilians being killed. This will never stop and it will become more of a problem if Israel doesn’t stop trying to convince the world that it is only defending itself.

That cesspool in New York, the U.N., is filled with Arabs and other Muslims who are committed to the obliteraion of Israel. Leftist around the world feel the same way. I say to hell with them. This is going to get worse because of that Muslim in the Oval Office. Israel is on it’s own. It had better act like it.

“just 19% of voters think the Israelis are to blame”

This deranged group likely overlaps entirely with the 25% of voters that Rasmussen reports Strongly Approve of BHO’s performance.

He does weight heavily toward dims and he did change his methodology after coming under attack by obama for his poor numbers in the early spring. He admitted this in an interview with Sean some time back.

That's 19% solid support for Obama's reelection.
