Report: White House to pressure Israel to end blockade of Gaza
Hot Air ^ | June 3, 2010 | Allahpundit

Remember how there was supposedly going to be “no daylight” between them in dealing with the flotilla aftermath? Turns out daylight has broken after just four days. Question: If you’re intent on pushing a policy as reckless as ending the blockade — and it is reckless, as we all know from Lebanon that neutral “peacekeepers” aren’t going to keep Iranian weapons out of Gaza — why on earth would you wait to do it in response to a provocation? You’re sending a crystal clear signal here to the Muslim Brotherhood scumbags responsible for the flotilla and their Turkish sponsors that, yes indeed, dangerous confrontations can be leveraged into bringing western pressure to bear on Israel. This is going to turn Erdogan and his Islamist pals in the Turkish government into Muslim heroes, which practically guarantees further provocations from the new “champions of the ummah” or whatever.

The officials say that Israel’s deadly attack on a flotilla trying to break the siege and the resulting international condemnation create a new opportunity to push for increased engagement with the Palestinian Authority and a less harsh policy toward Gaza.

“There is no question that we need a new approach to Gaza,” said one official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the policy shift is still in the early stages. He was reflecting a broadly held view in the upper reaches of the administration…

[W]orld powers have grown increasingly disillusioned with the blockade, saying that it has created far too much suffering in Gaza and serves as a symbol not only of Israel’s treatment of Palestinians but of how the West is seen in relation to the Palestinians.

Looking more and more like the Obama Administration quietly encouraged the “flotilla”

O's pals were on board.

Interesting.

I wonder how Erdogan’s fervent support for this “IHH” group effects him with the military? He may have thought the people on the ships were all hippie commie types.

Why shouldn’t Israel have a blockade to protect their country? JFK used a blockade on Cuba during the missle crisis

I, and many, many more American’s, are ashamed of mac daddies response.

Rest assured that the end of this time of trouble has already been written and the outcome is total victory for Israel.

GAZA (01/06/2010): After some media to judge, the situation in Gaza, desperate, everything is about to collapse, the community is on the brink or at the level of the third world.
*************************************
This is the beginning of an article by a Danish journalist who went into Gaza JUNE 2, 2010 expecting to see all the things that had been described in various news media...starvation, thirst, rationing of low fuel supplies.
What he saw, even in the most poor places in Gaza were traffic jams and food stalls overflowing with milk, food, fruits, and vegetables.

I must admit I was a little surprised. I must admit. Because when I call down here to my Palestinian friends, so they tell me about all the problems and deficiencies, so I expected that the crisis was a little more clear.

And the first woman we interviewed in the market confirms this strange, contradictory, negative outlook:

"We have nothing," she said.
"We need everything! ”Food, drinks ... everything!"

It disturbed her not at least that she stood between the mountains of vegetables, fruit, eggs, poultry and fish, while she held his doomsday prophecy solid.

snip
The Israeli army communicate this evening that it has filled emergency meant the population of Gaza from the six Turkish activist ships on 20 trucks to drive it into the Gaza Strip. . Cargo consists among other of "different types of medication, clothes, blankets, medical equipment and toys.

But the Israelis can save themselves the inconvenience.
Hamas announced that they will not accept emergency aid from the ships, and has blocked attempts by Israel to deliver humanitarian aid.

I could be mistaken, but I think what is being discussed is an easier mode of access for aid, and a change from a list of approved items, to a list of banned items. Probably makes sense. Won't be acceptable to the terrorists, who want free access to arms. The only way to accomplish that is to have the international community monitor the arms embargo, like they do in Lebanon. That won't happen. America shouldn't be involved in monitoring shipments either, we already arm the other 2/3 of palestinians in the West Bank.

Yep. Those Weather Underground Terrorists don’t like America or Israel and intend to cut us down to size. That bad old “imperialism” spoken of in the propaganda book “Prairie Fire” (The politics of Revolutionary Anti-Imperialism) by The Weather Underground is being played out on stage now right in front of our eyes. It is regrettable our country elected someone who views America and Israel as the enemy, ha?

“But the lack of real work and a genuine Palestinian economic development, as their brethren in the West Bank currently enjoys with help from the West, it could make much the situation in the Gaza Strip.

And this economic development must come from within.

There will never again be a situation where up to 150,000 workers from the Gaza Strip can take into Israel every day, and bring money back to help the local economy. (Someone actually once Israel was also criticized for).

It gave a wave of terrorism and suicide bombings in the 90s and beginning of 2000 year end.”

Color me a skeptical shade of swarthy, but an Islamist leader encouraging a “private” charity to cause a crisis is as direct as a leader can get without putting an official Turkish stamp on the flotilla.

As far as hippie commie types, well, that red/green alliance we spoke of back in 02 and 03 has flowered.

Funny how lefties ignore what the muj and other muslim countries have done to them......but many Islamists are also former Marxist types.

After a decade of desecularisation and defanging the military, that is the question, how much commitment to Ataturk’s vision of Turkey is there in the military.

After all, one reason for Ataturk was his take that the sclerotic Ottoman Empire combined with the power of the mosque had rendered Turkey unable to keep up with the advances of the Europeans in all facets of society.
