I don’t “prefer” to see patterns. But when they happen, I pay attention.

On one day, back in 1984, I decided to go to Nellis AFB to get a prescription filled, shop at the commissary and BX, and fill the tank with gas.

I drove onto the Base, and as I signaled to turn into a parking space in front of the pharmacy, the turn signal arm came off in my hand.
I said, “OK. I can deal with that.” I walked across the lot to the door of the pharmacy only to be met with a sign that told me the pharmacy was closed that day because a new computer was being installed.
I said, “OK. I can deal with that.” And I drove to the BX gas station. As I pulled into the drive, I saw a sign that said there was no gas available at that time, but tomorrow would be better. I said, “OK. I can deal with that,” and I went home.

You may see this as nothing, but to me, it was a series of THREE! When things happen to me, no matter what they are, they happen in a sequence of three which encompasses no more than a 36 hour period of time.

You may scoff, and so may others. But once “The Three” are done with, I can go for years without ever having another bit of “bad luck.”

Pay attention. The Three may be crucial at some point in your life.

Maculley Caulkin (sp)...went through the same thing didn’t he? It’s just disgusting what these parents do to their kids. The man that played Donna Reed’s son on the Donna Reed show (early 60’s?) formed an organization for this very reason: Parents of child stars who rob them (that and I believe as a support group to help the ‘aging’ child star). Anyway there’s a special place in hell for these parents. It’s shocking what some of them allow their children to be subjected to; the most perverse, twisted content along in an atmosphere poisoned with depravity.

You can remember THAT from 26 years ago?

All three of those are so minor I’d forget about them in a week, and the fact that all three happened on the same day I’d easily forget in a month.

Hope nothing serious ever happens to you, but then I must have a really hard life.

I remember patterns in my life. Until that day, I hadn’t much thought about the “Pattern of Three,” but from then on, I felt as if I had been given a “message” of sorts.

If two things (good or bad) happen within a 24-hour period, I need to pay attention to the second one, as it may be the pattern that saves my life. (It HAS happened, but I’m not willing to discuss it today.)

Sometimes, one has to be alert to the forces that control us. We can’t stop the blinker arm from breaking if it has been subjected to desert heat, but if it breaks, we need to be aware that there may be a reason why we cannot use it that day.

To me, it was, “What the...?” And then I headed into the pharmacy. Was I really supposed to go there?

No. Why? I don’t know.

But I listen to things that most people don’t. Years before, we lived in Olympia, WA, while Igor was in Saudi Arabia. We purchased a lot at Ocean Shores Outdoor Recreation Club. We had a 19’ trailer there, and spent every weekend we could out there. (The two kids and I.)

One Sunday, as we were driving back to Oly in drizzle, following a tanker truck and one car, my son said he needed to stop at a service station. I was (am) a believer in the “third time’s a charm” so I said, “OK,” and kept driving.

A few minutes later, still following the tanker and the car, he told me again that he had to go. Again, I said, “OK,” and kept driving through Aberdeen.

The third time, however, I pulled into a service station and let him use the restroom. I eased back into traffic in the pouring rain, following the road around the town, and as we headed for the road through “the rain forest,” we had to slow down for an accident.

The tanker truck and car we had been following for 16 miles or more had met up across the highway on the way out of Aberdeen. The car we had been behind was under the tanker and the car that had been behind us was an accent to them both.

Had I not stopped to let my son relieve himself, there is no doubt in my mind that I would not be here today to tell of it.

As for having “a really hard life,” look for patterns in your past and see if they may fit in your future. God has subtle ways of telling us it is not our time, or that we have overlooked something, or that we really need to pay attention.

I never scoff at anything that might be, in reality, a means of saving myself. Even “Patterns of Three.” “Patterns” are there for a reason.

Very sorry about your nephew. My brother-in-law lost his brother to suicide just before Christmas several years ago. It has changed my brother-in-law,he’s no longer his old happy self, how could he be. My condolences on your loss.

Pattern recognition is hard-wired into the human brain. Without it we would not be able to do many of the things that make us unique among species. Reading, music, art, language, architecture, mathematics, science, photography, television and movies, and many other aspects of civilization simply would not exist without our pattern recognition ability. Even our ability to recognize different faces is due to our pattern recognition ability.

However, what you have described is not pattern recognition, but it is called by other names: intuition, precognition, 6th sense. You have indicated your religious faith informs your "pattern of three" beliefs. I am not one to argue the pros and cons of anyone else's religious faith. But the fact of the matter is that almost every situation we encounter is similar to an immense number of previous situations going back to our earliest infancy. Every day of our lives is a learning experience, and our brains build on everything we have ever learned to inform us moment by moment throughout our lives.

You believe as you do because of the unique set of experiences that make up the sum total of your unique life. The same is true of every individual on the planet.

As for the topic of this thread -- a celebrity death -- and whether they come in threes, empirical evidence resoundingly says no. You are, of course, free to believe as you wish, but if you are at all interested in facts, you might consider looking here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deaths_in_2010

This month of May 2010, alone, 276 notable people have died, and we still have three days left in the month. That averages out to just over 10 notable people per day. They ranged in age from 17 to 114, with the average age at time of death being 73. They were actors, politicians, sports figures, authors, coaches, scientists, educators, and other notables. Worldwide, approximately 56 to 57 million human beings die each year. We don't see the deaths occurring around us every day, so are unaware of the scale of passings annually. The news media informs us of only a tiny fraction of the deaths, even of notable people. So again, whether or not you have a pattern of three in your own life is for you to decide. But empirically, when it comes to celebrity deaths, there is no such pattern. There is only myth.

I have experienced the patterns or synchronistic events throughout my life as well. Often I do not always know what I am supposed to learn, but I do take the cues and pay particular close attention and keep and open mind for the lessons or warnings or just heightened situations and their patterned occurances. I also have a very acute sixth sense and often know things about situations before they happen.

As far as the patterning, there is no question it is God or an external force usually smacking me upside the head :-). Believe it or not your comments tonight was one of those patterns. As far as knowing things before they happen. I am deeply intuitive and sensitive and life can feel overwhelming because of this. So I have to live with knowing I have a gift that can wear me down or that I can use to be of service.

There are also a lot more patterns and an increase in them lately (since 9/11) in the outside world (meaning worlds not just mine such as media etc and media figures.)

You must be an INTJ. :-) Ever hear of Meyers-Briggs Personality Type. You are not wrong. You have just described only one element of patterning. Monkey Face is describing another external force patterning that is truly based on synchronistic events as well as clear force from the outside.

I don’t look for patterns, but when they occur, I pay attention.

For most of my life, I’ve lived with ESP which can be extremely frightening in its magnitude and instensity, it can be comical or sweet in its gentleness. However, I can relate not just the times when I was helped by listening, but also injured by not listening.

Sometimes, it takes three whacks upside the head for us to hear what God is trying to tell us, and each whack is a little harder than the last.

On the Divorce Court episode, his wife stated he often had temper tantrums and would bang his head against the wall. They had a history of fighting and he apparently fell down the stairs prior to this incident leading up to his hospitalization. “family” being very quiet on this. FIL said hosptial will make press statement. Very odd situation. RIP Gary, you gave me a lot of good laughs growing up.

Monkey Face is describing another external force patterning...

Monkey Face described a belief that he or she holds. As I made clear, it is not my place to argue for or against another person's beliefs. My point is strictly focused on the myth that celebrity deaths come in threes. They do not, and I provided empirical evidence to prove the point.

However, if a person wants to believe that celebrities are unique among human beings in that their deaths come in threes, to that I say whatever floats your boat.

...I provided empirical evidence to prove the point. ..

You have an empire all your own? Wow. I bet you skipped anything in patterns of three or more to build it, too.

Monkey Face described what Monkey Face experienced. Belief has nothing to do with it, so please don't put words in my mouth. It isn't comely.

RIP Gary.

His co-star, Dana Plato, was very troubled too.

She later posed for Playboy in 1989, and died of prescription drug overdose in 1999.

Now isn’t that odd? Dennis Hopper died today. Things that make ya go “Hm-m-m-m-m!” Who will it be tomorrow? To dispell the myth of “patterns of three,” of course.
