...nobody in the media seems to have much of a problem with Michael Yon being removed from the front lines by Obama/General McChrystal. Yon has openly stated the problems in Afghanistan right now and how we could lose this war, unless changes are made. He has been critical of the current rules of engagement that have put our troops in danger and could actually make this war like the Vietnam that the leftist media claimed it was early and often when Bush was president (it's strange you don't hear those comparisons from them anymore).

My impression of Thai politics is that Thaksin acted to break up Thailand’s oligopolies, and the oligopolists moved against him. Is that an accurate impression?

Not really. He was one of the oligopolists. His impact was in perfecting a way to take advantage of the system. He didn't play by the established rules which is why he had to go.

“Life was good before I went to Iraq. But after three friends were killed during the GWOT, and my growing mistrust for the media and for the US Government/Military, I quit traveling the world and went to war. The United States was in peril. I am American. Today, I do not trust McChrystal anymore than some people trust the New York Times, Obama or Bush. If McChrystal could be trusted, I would go back to my better life. McChrystal is a great killer but this war is above his head. He must be watched..”

THIS is what they are calling unhinged?
I got news. Anyone who has kept up with the many, many threads here on McChrystal would absolutely agree with this assessment including me. ALL the info on McChrystal and what he has done in Afghanistan and before did not come from Michael Yon...and I had not even seen this from Yon.
Furthermore. McChrystal’s history of covering up IS well known. SO well known in fact, that it cost him a promotion and a command position.
What seems to be going down at Black Five is a personal feud involving people who seem to want to take McChrystal’s press releases as gospel.
I don’t know about anyone’s personal issues with Yon. I DO know that he has not been the only source in Afghanistan who has made these kinds of statements because unlike them, I have not followed Yon as my one and only source for information, but I HAVE followed McChrystal since day one and what they are upset about at Black Five from Yon is stuff I have posted here without ever seeing one word from Yon on the subject.
What they are calling unhinged lies is the absolute truth. if they prefer not to believe it, fine. That does not make it less true.
Actually, they sound too damn cliquey for my comfort.

How did he negatively affect the people who decided to oust him?

The Thai Royal Family was the traditional patron of the poor. He implemented policies which were beneficial to this group. By doing so he lessened the importance placed on the former.
