Growing number vow not to do business in Austin
AUSTIN (KXAN) - The city councils decision to boycott travel to Arizona is resulting in organizations and individuals boycotting the city of Austin in protest.
A growing number of political organizations, including the Odessa and Burleson Tea Parties, have decided not to do business with the city of Austin until the council resends the Arizona boycott they passed a few weeks ago.
We will try to minimize what the city gets from our stay there, said Hood county Republican Party Chairman Randy Shelton. We will not stay in hotels inside the city of Austin and we will not ride the city transit.
Shelton says they will continue to support Austin businesses but try to prevent any dollars from going towards city revenue. Other boycotts are more extreme.
A search online showed many more individuals vowing not to do business in Austin, including one poster who says they will cancel hotel reservations and a Leander resident who says they will skip having lunch inside Austin city limits.
The boycott apparently is already being felt according to the Austin Hotel and Lodging Association who sent KXAN this statement:
The AHLA is not a political association and does not in any way support travel boycotts of any kind. Hotels in Austin are now beginning to experience concrete evidence from the many visitors now canceling their leisure or business plans to Austin.
. KXAN was told some of the cancellations include riders who normally take part in the Republic of Texas (motorcycle)Rally.
Oops. Jumped in after the situation was happily settled. Sorry. *Blush*
Sometimes my posts don’t make much since. I’m getting scattered-brained because of all this ObamaNation stuff. LOL!
I’m in San Diego on long term (6 months) TDY (per diem). My company has a large presence in Arizona and many of the guys I’m working with are from there. We started vacating our hotels within the city limits today and notified hotel managers why we were leaving. From an email I received, the ‘Convention and Visitors Bureau’ here is getting hammered by these hotel managers.
Just doing my part to save the Republic ...
I misinterpreted his post, I apologized
Awesome, It’s time these city council’s were held accountable for their actions.

GOOD on you! My best to your buds and keep up the good work!
*sigh* Journalists think they're soooo smart, and they're soooo dumb.
bump
It is typically a HUGE source of revenue for "hot spot" destinations.
Hotel occupany taxes are free money to city coffers.
The Hotel Associations are NOT political groups at all; they work with the cities to increase travel ideas and help the city enhance the visitor experience, they advocate on behalf of the hoteliers. The H&LA of Austin employs some great, hardworking folks, who are not affiliated with what the City Council has done - so be gentle with them.
When you cancel your travel plans, let the hotel know WHY you are cancelling them. Then contact the Hotel Association and, very politely, let them know why you have just cancelled your reservation at XYZ property. Don't complain to them, they don't have any direct power or say so over what the City leaders have done, and are probably sick about it.
But very politely let them know, so they can have concrete evidence of visitor outrage. They can yell to the CVB, which can scream at the Mayor.
DO NOT SPEND MONEY in Austin. Don't go to the restaurants, don't buy trinkets, don't visit entertainment destinations. It's all inter-related. Send letters to the City Council letting them know why you are not spending money in their city. Enough pressure bubbbling up will force the businesses to either elect a new City Council, or pressure the City Council into rescinding their boycott. They are only hearing from the Amen Choir. Let them hear from the pews!
Let us not forget San Francisco.
Great advice, thanks
Excellent!
Real Americans are finally starting to stand up to Ubama and his city thugs.
As always, money talks.
Post 29 from TheWriterTX applies to ‘Frisco also
No kidding, Salt Lick for me!
And so is Pasadena. I received a reply yesterday from an email I sent to the mayor of Pasadena earlier in the week saying they didn't vote to boycott Arizona. I said I didn't care they still 'condemned' them for passing their law. It is none of their damn business.
The hospitality industry (hotels, entertainment, restaurant) and the industries that support them employs 1 out of every 7 people in the country.Aren't they also SEIU members?
Salt Lick is a BBQ place?
lol.
Let them feel the majoritys wrath
