NEW YORK (CBS/AP) John Travolta's two family dogs were killed after being struck by an airport service vehicle at Maine's Bangor International Airport.
This event comes a little more than a year after Travolta and his wife, actress Kelly Preston, lost their son, Jett, who died after suffering from a seizure while vacationing with them in the Bahamas.
In a statement released to the Bangor Daily News, city officials said, "An airport service pickup truck was approaching the airplane to service the airplane and did not see the dogs. Unfortunately, the dogs were struck and killed. The airport is investigating the accident. Out of respect for the family's privacy the city will make no further comment."

This is why I would never fly my dog anywhere.
Youre just a ray of sunshine news today arent you? ;-)
If Travolta had ridden on Amtrak, his dogs would still be alive.
I don’t know, does it say? I presume they were crated and the driver back into it.
Does that mean that the writer is COMPARING the death of Bob Smith's wife with his house burning down?
My sweet Lord, some people are freaking stupid!
In no way does the story suggest that.
You so obviously want to turn this into a thread where you discount animals by needlessly pointing out their (obvious) inferiority to humans.
Were you bitten by an animal as a child or something? Get over it.
Both events are tragic, and only compound the Travolta's pain.
I’d rather lose my husband than my dog.
“My sweet Lord, some people are freaking stupid!”
No argument here.
I wouldn't expect a pick up truck to see anything
Only an obtuse reading of the article could give that impression.
How sad for the family.
Agreed. Plus, he and his wife seem always ready to personally fly supplies to disaster areas, to support the troops, etc. Scientology aside, I think he and Kelly are really good people.
With this and all the other horror stories about animals on airplanes, We would NEVER trust Rocky the WonderLab to the airlines. I’d sooner drive cross country with him in the back seat than in a crate in the hold of an aircraft.

Yup.....so would I...but to equate a “dog/pet” to the loss of a child is a slippery slope that the liberals slid down...
If they had lost their “pet” salamander would the story make the same comparison?? Would you?
Yeah, you can always get a new husband. lol
Very sad.
And a corollary would be - what? That there’s no pain in a Christian life?
I would assume that they were loose since Travolta flies his own private plane.
No, stop projecting your own bias into the story.
For pet owners who regard their pets as part of the family, it’s a family loss. They weren’t equating them, they are pointing out the fact it seems their losses are ongoing beginning with the tradgedy of losing their son last year under horrible circumstances.
