SIOUX FALLS, SD - She made a name for herself in the courtroom, and now a woman who owned a Sioux Falls law firm and is a current candidate for state house is on the other side of the law.
Authorities arrested 50-year Mary Ann Giebink of Sioux Falls around 2 a.m. Friday after leading a sheriff's deputy on a high-speed chase east of the city. She now faces several charges.
A Minnehaha County sheriff's deputy first noticed Mary Ann Giebink speeding eastbound on 26th Street early Friday morning. But when the deputy tried to pull her over, she took off.
Authorities say Giebink turned north onto Six Mile Road, blew past a stop sign at Highway 42, and then continued north past Fred Assam Elementary School before losing control of her maroon sedan at Six Mile Road and Madison Street. Her car went into the ditch where she was arrested.
The sheriff's office believes Giebink was driving as fast as 100 mph during the pursuit, through 35 mph zones. And officials say it's lucky no one was hurt.
Mary Ann Giebink, 50, ran for the District 10 seat as a Democrat in 2008. This November, she's on the ballot for the same seat, along with current Republican Representatives Roger Hunt of Brandon and Gene Abadallah of Sioux Falls and fellow Democrat Greg Kniffen of Sioux Falls.
Today's arrest is actually Giebink's second drunken driving arrest in the space of a year. She was charged with DWI in Sioux Falls last July and received a suspended sentence on the condition that she avoid any alcohol-related traffic citations for three years.
Giebink will face a judge today for drunken driving, marijuana and aggravated eluding charges, all of which relate to a chase this morning through a residential neighborhood that reportedly reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour before Giebink lost control of her car and crashed into a ditch near Six Mile Road and Madison Street.
Wonder if she was a Ted Kennedy fan?
I think she’s a good friend of Tim Johnson.
No mention of party affiliation in title, subtitle, first sentence, or first paragraph...therefore its a dem.
Actually the Argus Leader newspaper story did mention it, but we’re forbidden to post from them here due to copyright complaints, so I found the story on the TV stations website and added the comment.
Looking at her facebook page I see her undergraduate degree was in “Liberal Studies”. Go figure....
Article at link completely omits party affiliation therefore must be Democrat/Media politician.
Anyone look at the picture on the link? You sure this is a woman?
a Democrat woman
Our former Republican governor and Congressman, Bill Janklow, also drove at high speed and ignored traffic laws. He ran through a stop sign while speeding killing a motorcyclist. He was convicted of manslaughter and served time in jail. Sadly we have irresponsible drivers of both parties.
Both stories mentioned it. Neither did in the title or first paragraph. When its a republican we get something more like this:
REPUBLICAN ARRESTED
Local GOP candidate faces DWI charges
“Republican Joe Smith, the GOP candidate in district 2, surprised local republican officials when it was announced that the republican lawyer was arrested following a DWI.”
from a demonRAT perspective, she is highly qualified to be in congress!!!
