...Grand Prairie Mayor Charles England said in prepared remarks that White, who is running against Republican Gov. Rick Perry, would bring Texans together to tackle the state's budget problems. In accepting the endorsement, White criticized Perry, portraying him as a divisive partisan.
We have a governor right now that divides the state into red teams and plays them off each other for the purposes of his political career, White said.
Perry spokesman Mark Miner dismissed the endorsement, saying it would not hide the fact that Bill White is a liberal trial lawyer. Miner also said Perry would unveil endorsements in the coming months that reflect wide support throughout Texas.
...England crossed party lines in 2007 to support his son, Grand Prairie Rep. Kirk England, when he left the GOP to run for his seat in the Legislature as a Democrat.

So the headline could have just as easily read:
“England, who has a history of supporting democratic party candidates, has followed in the same pattern.....”
Like father, like son. Must be that Opportunistic gene running in the family
PING
White is about as lib as you can get. Makes me wonder about this mayor.
Poor White, cannot get used to dealing with civilized people, so want’s a bit of trash running the state. He’ll take our money, but back a democrat...he should pay us back, with money, not trickery, playing to be a Republican.
Too liberal for Texas.
it is a RINO with one horn or two?
How is England a “GOP mayor”? City elections are nonpartisan in Texas and Texas doesn’t allow you to register with a party.
Bill White, Anise Parker, Kathy Whitmire, Lee P. Brown, and Bob Lanier were all registered Democrats who ran Houston as Mayor.
The only thing “non-partisan” means is that typically we see a general election with 2 or 3 Democrat candidates (if ANYONE runs against the downtown business establishment’s annointed selection at all). IF a Republican dares to enter the race, then we are told that it is the “most partisan race in years”.
Bill White(D) was mayor of Houston and ruled like a Democrat as is his Democrat successor.
They probably went by what primary he last voted in.
