How is England a “GOP mayor”? City elections are nonpartisan in Texas and Texas doesn’t allow you to register with a party.

Bill White, Anise Parker, Kathy Whitmire, Lee P. Brown, and Bob Lanier were all registered Democrats who ran Houston as Mayor.

The only thing “non-partisan” means is that typically we see a general election with 2 or 3 Democrat candidates (if ANYONE runs against the downtown business establishment’s annointed selection at all). IF a Republican dares to enter the race, then we are told that it is the “most partisan race in years”.

Bill White(D) was mayor of Houston and ruled like a Democrat as is his Democrat successor.
