Time to Fly Your Flag At Half Mast
ChicoER Gate ^ | 5/1/10 | Chuck Wolk

Posted on 05/05/2010 3:17:13 PM PDT by Korah

On the morning of March 22, I raised my flag to the top of the 25 foot pole In my front yard.  I must have forgotten to tie it off, because when I returned later in the afternoon from presenting my Sunday message I noticed that the flag had been lowered to half mast.  That evening I watched the the House of Representatives vote on the Senate's version of the Health Care legislation.  As the remaining votes needed to pass the legislation were cast, I began thinking about the damage this legislation would do to America.  It was then that I realized it was time to fly our flags at half mast.   So I decided to leave mine where it was until I believe that God Himself has moved me to raise it back to the top.

Like me, many of my friends and relatives believe that we are experiencing what could very well be the last decades of what has been called the greatest civilization the world has ever seen.  Yes, I believe that unless we change things drastically, that the America we once knew could very well be gone forever.  I say so because, unless we gain control of congress this November by a super majority then we will never be able to overturn the Health Care bill.  Fact is, even with a Republican super majority, it will be difficult to overturn this unconstitutional law. Does everyone remember that we were never able to convict Bill Clinton and remove him from office?  I do pray that if and when a challenge to the law gets to the the Supreme Court that the conservatives will prevail and thus rule it unconstitutional.  The problem we have is the moderate conservative Justice Anthony Kennedy who has shown a propensity to vote with the liberals when we needed him the most.

Unfortunately, I am of the belief that the very fact that a vast majority of Americans have turned their backs on God is why we are finished.  In doing so, God has also turned His back on us as, at least as a nation. Truth be told, we cannot continue to condone the many evil things we do in America as if God has changed His mind about what He says is evil.

As a Christian, I guess I should be thankful that the current events are turning out the way they are.  After all the many conditions I feel are needed to be in place for the various "End Times" scenarios to be fulfilled are now falling into place.  I have stated before, and do so again, that I tend to look at certain aspects of the end times prophecies a bit different then many of my colleagues who hold to dispensationalism.  Without getting into the specifics, I will just say that my understanding of history and politics, tend to lead me towards a different understanding of how the world will be ruled just before Christ returns. Mankind has become selfish and lazy, a fact that has led the majority of nations to be dominated by governments which lean towards some type of Socialism.  Whether it be under democratic socialism or democratic capitalism, it is still a system ruled by the people who allow some sort of redistribution of wealth to pay for services they demand while expecting to do less work for those services.

This egalitarian type of political rule allows for many absurd and dangerous aspects of society to flourish that could not survive in a totalitarian system. N
ow while totalitarian regimes are some of the worse types of governments, mainly due to the complete control they exercise over its citizens, they do tend to protect the state at all costs.  A cursory look at the way Castro dealt with those afflicted with AIDS in the 1980's compared to how .............

My husband just took our flag down and said he refuses to fly it until the foreigner currently occupying the Oval office is either impeached and convicted or we elect him out of it.

Anyway, I read this and the writer makes some real good points about the direction we have taken and what our future holds if things don't change.

I don't think half mast is the proper way to go.

That's for honoring the departed.

Upside down is a distress signal. We are certainly in distress, are we not?

Of course to make your position more clear, fly one of these:

There are a couple of the latter in my neighborhood already. (The closest gate to Fort Hood is less than a mile away, some of the post housing is much closer.)

there was a thread a few days ago on this letter.

some interesting divisions among FReepers.

But here’s the Official Version of etiquette

http://www.usflag.org/flagetiquette.html

.....The flag should never be dipped to any person or thing. It is flown upside down only as a distress signal.

.....The flag is to be flown at half staff in mourning for designated, principal government leaders and upon presidential or gubernatorial order.

I found (on Amazon) Gadsden flags at 99 cents each... I took the chance after reading the reviews and ordered a couple of dozen. They are a great flag at five times the cost!

I've been giving them to fellow Conservatives such as my Doctor, and friends. These flags have been hoisted up! This is a much better way to show your convictions rather than flying Old Glory at half mast, or upside down (though I can really relate to those that do this!).

A worthy topic for discussion.

Agreed. The upside down flag thing is too unibomber for me. When I see the snake flags I know its another Patriot for sure.

Flying the flag upside down or at half staff is not an appropriate form of political protest. The act by it’s very nature, insults the nation and is a tactic of the anti-American left.

The are better and more constructive ways of political protest. The flags of the United States and the several states and territories should be off limits. They belong to all the people, regardless of political affiliation.

Yes, fly the beautiful patriot flags. I fly the appropriate flag to the "tenor" of my blog at The Patriot's Flag. You can see my flag chart HERE and the latest blog post HERE.

Too many people died for the USA flag to use it in "protest". Obama and the idiots running the government today should NOT be important enough to change the integrity of Old Glory. If you want to make a colorful protest ... grab a patriot flag and fly it for a reason. I do it every day ... it is colorful and makes a statement to the neighborhood.

My husband just took our flag down and said he refuses to fly it until the foreigner currently occupying the Oval office is either impeached and convicted or we elect him out of it.

Conversely, I know of many people that have started flying the American flag for the very same reason.

I would encourage you and your husband to fly our great flag proudly to announce to the world that this is our country and we will not give in to the intimidation of those that are attempting to destroy our country, no matter who is in the highest office of the land.

I think the enemies of America see it as a victory if they can cause us to stop showing our patriotism with the act of removing our flags.

Fly your flag high proudly.

It is a in-their-face gesture as well as a patriotic one

I still have the flag that I flew upside down continuously for about two years during clinton and I took it down after Bush was sworn in.

We have been flying our flag upside down as our beautiful nation is in serious distress. Noticed today the top brass of the Navy wants to increase out of pocket fees for those on military tricare.
This will be one very sad Memorial Day as we honor our fallen and look with shock at the treatment of our Navy Seals being tried for punching a terrorist in the nose and dealing with a now deceased Sen Murtha who accused our marines of being cold blooded killers.
So many issues besides what our military endures that have us concerned for America so our flag will fly upside down until Obama is OUT of the Whitehouse.

Last 4th of July we put out Gadsen flags as well US flags.

I have packed away the US flag and will not fly it again until our country is recovered.

I find that I cannot bring myself to celebrate the 4th of July this year. What would I be celebrating? I will put out Gadsen flags and not have our usual 4th of July bash. It just doesn’t feet right.

What are others planning for the 4th?

When I see the snake flags I know its another Patriot for sure.

A 13-star Bennington ('76') or Betsy Ross works, too.

The Culpeper Militia flag looks like the Gadsden, only black (or dark blue) on a white field.

I like the Taunton flag, too.
