Obama's Katrina

Media Bias: As the Gulf Coast faced ecological disaster, the president yukked it up with White House correspondents. His Saturday radio address didn't even mention the oil spill. President Bush, call your office.

Rarely has media sycophancy been on such sharp display as in the largely indifferent response to President Obama's own indifference to the oil rig disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. The coverage has been far different from that given to President Bush's handling of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

The White House announced Saturday morning that Obama would head to the Gulf Coast on Sunday, just a day after saying he would not go. During a brief visit Sunday to Louisiana, nearly two weeks after disaster beckoned, Obama said: "I'm not going to rest ... or be satisfied until the leak is stopped at the source (and) the oil on the Gulf is contained." It was about time.

Eleven oil rig workers are missing and presumed dead in the blast. A mention of them and their grieving families would have been appropriate during Saturday's presidential radio address. Instead, the president droned on about the need for a campaign finance overhaul as the Gulf faced an Exxon Valdez-size calamity on steroids. America's future energy security also hangs in the balance.

As the St. Petersburg Times editorialized about the damage that could soon hit Florida's shores: "President Obama met U2's Bono in the Oval Office on Friday when he should have been headed to the Gulf Coast." The fragile marshes and shorelines of the Mississippi Delta could wait. Bono was in the house.

Can you imagine if either Presidents Bush (41 or 43), Reagan, Nixon or Ford had been in charge when this catastrophe happened? It’d be all you’d hear about 24/7!! Just like there are no homeless people when a Democrat is in the White House!!

The Oil Pollution Act (the noose)

The Oil Pollution Act (OPA) was signed into law in August 1990, largely in response to rising public concern following the Exxon Valdez incident. The OPA improved the nation's ability to prevent and respond to oil spills by establishing provisions that expand the federal government's ability, and provide the money and resources necessary, to respond to oil spills. The OPA also created the national Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund, which is available to provide up to one billion dollars per spill incident.

In addition, the OPA provided new requirements for contingency planning both by government and industry. The National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP) has been expanded in a three-tiered approach: the Federal government is required to direct all public and private response efforts for certain types of spill events; Area Committees -- composed of federal, state, and local government officials -- must develop detailed, location-specific Area Contingency Plans; and owners or operators of vessels and certain facilities that pose a serious threat to the environment must prepare their own Facility Response Plans.

Finally, the OPA increased penalties for regulatory noncompliance, broadened the response and enforcement authorities of the Federal government, and preserved State authority to establish law governing oil spill prevention and response.

Let's be clear, this is the same administration from DAY ONE never had the resources (fire booms) to fight the leak they KNEW was growing due to the reports from THEIR US COAST GUARD!

It won’t be his Katrina because the press will do everything possible to deflect blame away from the teflon don.
Unlike when Katrina hit, were within 24 hours, CNN and the rest of the MSM were all down there doing “oh the humanity” reports and already screaming about it all being Bush’s fault, the press is doing everything they can to deflect this away from Obama.
So where’s Kanye West claiming Obama’s lack of action to this oil spill is because he hates black people?

This admnistration must be stopped.

President Obama is sooner or later going to do something that's obviously impeachable. He's going to do this something on purpose, and in full public view.

He's then going to dare the congress, which may well by then be in GOP hands, to impeach him. He's going to couch it as "if White America wants to hold a congressional lynching, let's rumble."

The media will go wild, and will put themselves at his disposal.

It only can be stopped when we win the Hose back in November and gain enough seats in the Senate to limit the rat’s 60+ seats majority

Unfortunately we are stuck with this POS until 2012 and maybe 2016.

The media is not going to hold anyone on the left accountable for anything, no matter how outrageous and or illegal.

The best we can hope for is to limit the damage.

It cannot be “Obama’s Katrina” because that would require the government press to act like an independent press. Won’t happen.

AW, c'mon. Everybody knows this is Big Oil, Halliburton, and Dick Cheney's fault! If we just had Cap and Trade as law none of this would have happened! /s/

Can someone please explain why Janet From Day One Napolitano is running the show on the oil spill? Seems like the HSA sec has more legitimate work back home in AZ or at Times Square. Where are the secs of Interior or Energy or the head of EPA?

He has already done several things that are impeachable. Unfortunately right now it would be a waste of time to bring it up.
