John Hostettler, the Conservative Hope in the Indiana Senate Republican Primary
Youth for Western Civilization ^ | Monday, 03 May 2010 | John Anderson

Posted on 05/03/2010 5:08:40 PM PDT by ConservativeJen

John Hostettler, a former Congressman with a 97% ‘A+’ rating from immigration control groups, is the clear choice for conservative and independent minded voters in Indiana.

The ‘establishment’ candidate, Dan Coats, would not be any better than the Democratic nominee for conservatives and others concerned about immigration and individual liberty. He received an abysmal 27% ‘D’ ranking on immigration issues, worse than many Democrats in Indiana, including the Democratic nominee Brad Ellsworth.

Dan Coats also voted for Bill Clinton’s 1993 ‘assault weapons ban’, while John Hostettler voted against this anti-gun law. Dan Coats also voted for the anti-gun ‘Brady Bill’, and the NRA has said they will support Democrat Brad Ellsworth if Coats wins the GOP nomination. John Hostettler, on the other hand, has an ‘A’ rating from the NRA.

John Hostettler has also shown an ability to reach beyond his socially conservative base, winning the endorsement of popular Congressman Ron Paul. Dan Coats, a former lobbyist who held a position in the Bush administration, will not appeal to the independent voters upon whom the GOP is depending to win control of Congress this election.

John Hostettler is the candidate closest in the polls to Dan Coats, and has the best chance of beating him. The only other candidate above 10% in the polls, Marlin Stutzman, has been criticized for not being clearly against illegal immigration and an amnesty, and refused to answer a question in a debate about homosexuals in the military, which Hostettler opposes.

Indianan conservatives, especially those who care about ‘borders, language, and culture’ deserve a candidate who is better than the Democratic nominee on issues such as immigration and gun rights.

If a politician supported the “Assault Weapons” Ban, they don’t need to be in ANY elected office!

I’ve noticed Bill Bennett backs all the RINOs. He’s really been pushing Coats, like he pushed McLame in the primary.

The problem is that this man is a real lightweight. He doe snot raise money very well and he makes lots of gaffes. He was also arrested for carrying a gun onto an airplane. He lost a seat by a landslide to Ellsworth that he should of held onto easily. I would really be afraid to see him nominated as he might lose the election when more people get a good look at him. While he would be a solid conservative if he does win he will always be shaky for reelection and probably not a solid legislator.

If you want a 100% conservative to be the next Senator from Indiana, vote for Marlin Stutzman in the GOP primary.

If you want a 95% conservative to be the next Senator from Indiana, vite for Dan Coats in the GOP primary.

If you want Democrat Brad Ellsworth to be the next Senator from Indiana, vote for John Hostettler in the GOP primary.

Hostettler refuses to raise money or campaign, and will get beat by Ellsworth just as he was in 2006. I had given Hostettler the benefit of the doubt for months, but it’s obvious from the primary campaign that Hostettler still won’t do what it takes to run successfully statewide.

The headline is wrong. It should read:

John Hostettler, the Paulistinian Hope in the Indiana Senate Republican primary.

Here's the conservative in the race:

Marlin Stutzman

Coats may be the establishment candidate, but he’s conservative (as are all of the Republicans in this race).

I was originally for Hostettler, but he’s only raised $37K this year. That’s not enough to win a seat in the state legislature, let alone the U.S. Senate. It made me question how serious he was about the campaign.

The proof will be in the pudding. If Hostettler can’t raise money or campaign worth a hoot, he won’t win the Primary. Issue settled............AND.........BTW...........

The article does not indicate that Stutzman is a very good Conservative. What say ye to the charges made against him in the next to last paragraph shown in the thread?

Yeah, what I've seen of Hostettler is a cookie cutter Republican. Spouting the catch phrases, key words, points of interest, but no original thought. Boring. The guy this article didn't like because he wouldn't say he was against homosexuals in the military, was well spoken, had original thoughts and ideas and even suggested we scrap the Sec'y of Education and the whole dept.

Dan Coats isn't a bad guy, just entrenched in Washington politics.

I think I’m inclined to agree with you. But that is not how it is coming across in the media.

Coats may be the establishment candidate, but he’s conservative (as are all of the Republicans in this race).

Concurring bump.

“Here’s the conservative in the race:

Marlin Stutzman”
++++++++++++++

From Sen. Jim DeMint of the Senate Conservatives Fund re: Marlin Stutzman:

Dear Friends,

I want to thank you all of you who have supported Marlin Stutzman’s campaign in Indiana this week. The response has been remarkable.

In just 48 hours, the Senate Conservatives Fund has raised over $80,000 to fuel Stutzman’s come-from-behind bid for the United States Senate.

This is a lot of money in a state where you can run a television ad statewide for about $30,000 per day. With just over a week to go until election day, we’ve given Stutzman’s campaign a major boost.

CNN reported yesterday that this money came at a “welcome time for Stutzman” who is fighting to overcome two challengers who are better known in the state.

But there’s something the mainstream media and the Washington establishment don’t know about our effort.

We’re just getting started.

RedState.com reported today that Marlin Stutzman is the only candidate in the race with an A+ rating from the NRA. This is great news but it’s not all.

Marlin has been endorsed by Indiana Right to Life, by David Keene, the chairman of the American Conservative Union, and by conservative radio talk show host Mark Levin.

And, thanks to your support, Marlin’s first television ad is on the air and running strong.

This race is important to our future as a nation. We have a unique opportunity to join with thousands of grass roots conservatives in Indiana to elect a true leader to the Senate.

If he’s elected, Marlin Stutzman will join a new class of conservative stalwarts like Marco Rubio from Florida, Pat Toomey from Pennsylvania, and Ken Buck from Colorado. These men aren’t afraid to stand up to President Obama or the big-spending politicians in their own party.

Marlin Stutzman is exactly who we need fighting for our freedoms in Washington and he can win if we’re willing to fight for him.

Here’s what we need to do before the end of the week:

First, if you haven’t already given money or if you can give again, please contribute to Marlin Stutzman’s Senate campaign today. With your help, we can crack the $100,000 mark and keep building from there.
http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1103329635983&s=128969&e=001sh9hjwFgeFVfFurxHzBBKAfSZt9EBHz4OlPN1RCesur1Qh2SRu7rb40f_pzs2pQNn-v8FjUqUYyKDmcc2-n0csw2MTIAJqvcOrLF7-Y6n930PRdl3mWMTE_etY6v4y_WbzCz84C5fbo=

Second, please sign up to make phone calls for Marlin. Once you get a username and password, you can personally call voters in Indiana using your home computer.

I know this is a lot to ask but the future of our country is worth it.

Marlin and his wife, Christy, have put their lives on hold to run this campaign so they can pass on a better country to their two boys. Certainly we can give a little of our time and money to support them.

And consider this: If everyone who opens this email were to contribute $25, we could raise over $1 million for Stutzman’s campaign, which would instantly overwhelm his opponents and guarantee his victory.

Likewise, if everyone who opens this email were to make just 10 phone calls for Stutzman’s campaign, we could reach every registered Republican in the State of Indiana — multiple times! This would propel Marlin past his primary challengers and position him to win the seat for conservatives in November.

I want to thank each of you for being part of this movement to take back our country. I truly appreciate your support.

I also want you to know that if you’re not able to contribute financially right now or if you cannot volunteer, that is not a problem. I hope you keep your name on our list and continue to be part of our team.

Thanks again for your support. Let’s keep fighting.

Sincerely,

Jim DeMint
United States Senator
Chairman, Senate Conservatives Fund

P.S. Please support Marlin Stutzman for U.S. Senate in Indiana. He’s the kind of leader we can count on to stand up and fight for the principles of freedom.
