Here’s the problem I have with this Oil Rig explosion....

Here’s the problem I have with Oil Rig explosion.

Sorry for the vanity, but maybe some of you can help me on this...

“There was an explosion”. It’s pretty difficult to get a substance, particularly a gas, to explode unless it is confined in a pressure vessel. Hell, even gunpowder will not explode if you light it with a match unless it’s confined. Certainly not oil or gas or even hydrogen. It just burns.

Certainly their describing this as an explosion, but maybe that's just semantics. Has there been a good description of what actually took place?

Is Petrobras traded on the open market, and if so, has its stock gone up?

Petrobras is George Soro's offshore oil drilling project in BRAZIL. THE USA IS FINANCING IT, to the tune of 2-10 billion dollars. That doesn't mean we get that oil. I don't know if we're getting anything.

But who is suddenly worth a lot more money after this explosion? Who hates Americans and wants them to starve to death?

” Has there been a good description of what actually took place?”

There hasn’t even been a bad one.

What there has been is silence.

Depending on the gas, all it takes is a high enough concentration in the air.

Mark Levin had a caller yesterday who was a petroleum engineer on the rig when the explosion happened. Levin verified his identity. The engineer said that a large bubble of gas was ‘burped’ up by the well and settled on the surfaces of the rig. The equipment used on the surface of the rigs is grounded and won’t spark, but this is not true of all the equipment on the rig (i.e. down below). Such a spark probably ignited the gas and the result is the current mess.

I sure would like to talk with Todd Palin about it.

He’s a knowledgeable person on this issue...

This is all so convenient for Rahm. Now we have a Rig Crisis. Czars on every rig, problem solved.

I thought I saw a headline that said the President was going to the gulf tomorrow....but now I think it said he was going to golf tomorrow.

Here’s my take on the oil rig “explosion”:

I was listening a couple of nights ago when Mark Levin was talking about the President ordering SWAT to other oil rigs - and it was one of the clues I had been missing. But on Friday, I put a lot more of the clues together and on 4/30, I posted the following story at a FreeRepublic.com thread:

This whole oil rig thing smells to high heaven! There just seems to be too much “coincidence”; and I don’t believe in coincidence.

I think the reason it bothers me is that too many things were going on at the same time .. making this “coincidence” waaaaaaay too convenient.

These are the pieces of the puzzle that I put together:

1st - the dems are plotting to unleash upon America a cap and tax plan (but it’s not gaining in approval);

2nd - the dems want to do whatever they can to stop America from drilling their own oil (because that would create millions of jobs, spur the economy, and ensure energy independence for lots of years);

3rd - although Obama was allowing drilling (but not in the best areas – where oil had already been discovered), and the oil industry was calling him on it (which angered Obama);

4th - it just happened to be a day or so before or after “Earth Day” (a day when all the enviro-whackos are paying more attention);

5th - to solve all those problems (don’t forget Rahm Emanuel’s statement: “Never let a good crisis go to waste.”) - what could be better than a good oil spill - like maybe blowing up an oil rig ..?? Hmmmmm ..?? That would solve everything .. RIGHT ..??

Now, we have NO MORE OIL DRILLING; the belief that CAP AND TAX WILL BE EASY TO PASS; lots of PEOPLE WERE PAYING ATTENTION BECAUSE OF EARTH DAY, and I just can’t believe for one minute that this was an “accident” or some kind of “coincidence”.

The real cap .. the President sent SWAT to guard all the oil rigs .. WHY WOULD HE DO THAT IF IT WAS AN “ACCIDENT” ..??. But .. if the oil rig was blown up .. then they better inspect all the other oil wells to find out if they are ready to blow up too ..?? Hmmm ..?? Or .. is SWAT there to check and see if any of the evidence was left behind ..??

The real big question I have is: WHO BLEW IT UP ..??

And remember .. just a couple of days ago there was a thread on FR where we were discussing the Weather Underground and their statements about 25,000,000 being a casuality risk they were willing to take .. Hmmmm ..?? Did they believe killing over 100 on the oil rig was acceptable in order to accomplish their goal ..??

Interestingly .. there is a 6th factor: Who do the dems hate almost as much as Bush – Halliburton (aka Dick Cheney’s Halliburton)! It turns out Halliburton was involved in the construction of the oil rig. Hmmmm ..?? Coincidence ..?? I don’t think so.

This is a NEW well. It was approved in March 2009 for drilling by the Dept. of the Interiors’ Menendez. Menendez is now heading up the govts. role post explosion. The well, its drilling procedures, completion procedures are now and have been under govt. authority and have been under strict control. It is the administrations well....and, well, there is little to explain the explosion as you point out, and certainly there are no articles discussing past oil platform explosions in comparison to this one. We will have to wait.

Natural gas will explode even in open air. It is explosive when present between 4% and 14% gas in air mixture (approximate % required). Below 4% - not enough fuel to burn. Above 14% - not enough oxygen for combustion. Optimum mixture is approximately 10% gas in air. Works just like a military fue/air bomb - devastating results. (Ever see a house that has been leveled by a natural gas leak/explosion?)

I was in a gas well blow out in the late 70’s - scary as hell. Spent 25 years in the oil and gas business and saw some ugly stuff - I absolutely believe this was an accident that was preventable and nothing more.....red

See cripplecreek's post # 4. Also, flammable gases do not need pressure to explode. They generally need a concentration high enough to sustain burning before the reaction fizzles out and low enough so that there is enough oxygen to burn all the gas.

You are correct. Just down the road from my house there was a building that exploded. The gas collected in a basement leaking from a pinhole in an old gas pipe. When the furnace pilot light came on, BOOM. It pretty much leveled a 3 story building in a matter of seconds.

Yes. I was going to say that there was a rumor I heard a day or two ago that it was a North Korean sub. Thanks for finding the source of that. But I don’t know how likely it is.

In any case, the problem, these days, is that there’s no way in hell that you can trust ANYONE to investigate an occurence and tell the truth. Certainly not the government, the FBI, or any of the usual agencies. They all want to turn it to political advantage, or cover up any inconvenient truths.

I grew up in Michigan oil country and lived with the flicker of gas being burned off above the oil fields. They definitely didn’t want a still night creating a cloud and a catastrophe.

I read on another post that a woman working on the rig said the lights went out right before the explosion.
