Arizona Governor Poll Bounce for Arizona Governor After Signing Immigration Law (+16%)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | April 28. 2010 | Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 04/28/2010 5:34:28 PM PDT by Red Steel

Last week, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed an immigration law that launched a national debate. It has also at least temporarily helped her own chances of remaining Arizona’s governor.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in the state shows that 56% now approve of the way Brewer is performing her role as governor. Two weeks ago, just 40% offered their approval.

The new figure includes 22% who Strongly Approve of the governor’s performance. That’s up from five percent (5%) before Brewer signed the law that authorizes local police to stop and verify the immigration status of anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant.

The bounce in the polls is also evident in new numbers on the November election. If Brewer is the Republican nominee, she would get 48% of the vote while her likely Democratic opponent, State Attorney General Terry Goddard, would attract 40%. Two weeks ago, it was Brewer 44% and Goddard 40%. Goddard is an outspoken opponent of the new law.

I wonder if J D Hayworth’s numbers have improved since this bill was signed?

But she also signed a bill during that time more fully recognizing our gun-related civil rights. AND I think the bill to allow her to sue to block Obamascare might have been signed during that time as well. So there's ample reason for people to be happy with her.

It’s not racism, no matter how the illegals and their cohorts try to spin it.

The message will be received loud and clear by other governors, especially in the South and Southwest. Sure throws a monkey wrench into Obama's fraudulent "comprehensive immigration" bullshit.

What is he going to do now, with a half dozen sovereign States in open unilateral action? Another fiasco the shit-eating harvard marxist einsteins didn't anticipate.

Prolly not, cause his opponent Juan "Lettuce" McLame is doing his normal election year lying shtick and claiming to support the bill, thus negating any bump JD might see.

Well, if there were politicians out there that were on the fence about supporting the AZ law, a 16% bump in the polls will get them leaning in the right direction.

Shoot, might even see a few Democrat pols supporting the bill. Wouldn’t surprise me.

Heck, with a 16 point bounce, if Arnold in CA jumps on the bandwagon and supports this bill, his approval rating would shoot up to 21%.

If Jan does anything else in a seriously conservative way she will win the next election.

He'd have to ask his wife for permission.

The CA legislature would never pass a bill like that to put on Arnold’s desk.

I was thinking this bill cannot do McQueeg any good. It will do nothing for him or hurt him.

This is an explosion of patriotism. Many legal Hispanics join us in stopping the onslaught of these illegal aliens now packing our federal prisons. 30% of all prisoners are illegals!! I don’t want to pay for that any more.

We’ve had plenty of Hispanic people call in to our morning talk radio shows in S. Arizona that are for S.B 1070. The dirty little secret that the leftists don’t want you to know. Plenty of them are patriots who have been here for generations or played by the legal immigration rules. Why should they be punished for those who want a free pass? And they aren’t any more worried about being stopped for “looking Hispanic” than this white boy.
