Kentucky’s Republican Secretary of State Thinks Conservative Activists Are Extremists

Another reason I’m with Rand Paul? In an editorial board meeting in Kentucky, Trey Grayson is asked what he thinks about the “extremist,” Jim DeMint.

His response? Well, he does not defend DeMint and likeminded conservatives from the “extremist” label. What he does do is go on about how Jim DeMint has been a harsh critic of Mitch McConnell for working with Democrats, then praises McConnell for keeping Olympia Snowe and DeMint together on a few issues.

Where does Grayson really part ways with Rand Paul? Well, Grayson is happy to have budget deficit busting budgets and disagrees with Rand Paul’s desire to have a balanced budget.

Grayson says he is happy to vote for a big budget deficit if congress promises to rein in spending later. Just like they did with Obamacare.

Seriously. With Republicans like Grayson, who needs Democrats?

My favorite though is Trey Grayson's recent attack ad against Rand Paul for wanting to reform social security and medicare. Grayson is so ashamed of it he won't put it up on his website with all his other television and radio ads; but something captured it here:

strange you never hear extremists associated with say, oh I don’t know, Shcumer, the biggest whacko extremist in the Senate. Or how about the Obama-cimmie, the biggest left wing kook extremist ever.

Just weird how the former news media works.

You won't have to wait nearly that long. The Republican primary is on May 18th and Trey Grayson is currently down double-digits in all the independent polls.

Although Trey Grayson has a twangy Kentucky accent in person, he is one Kentuckian who would slip into the Rockefeller Republican scene like a silk stockinged foot into a patent leather tuxedo shoe. I could picture him standing on the bow of the Bush yacht, or out for an evening at the Kennedy Center in Midtown.

There are 3500 people in Lexington and Frankfort for whom that is appealing. The rest of Ky.? Not so much.

The more he is on TV the further his ratings will drop in Ky.

Mitch McConnell was a total embarrassment on Sunday TV. Can y’all in KY do something about him? Please?

In one comment he suggested changing the laws of economics ... he just wanted a different change than his Democrat counterpart.

He mischaracterized the immigration debate to the detriment of both the pro-illegal and anti-illegal Republicans.

Good to hear. May all the RINOS suffer similar fates.

So, TG is a freaking RINO. He should lose soundly.

I work in SE KY sometimes, and I see RP signs everywhere, but never see any TG signs. That tells me that in this region RP is the favorite.

Good bye liberals disguising themselves as Republicans.

Grayson is spending a fortune here in my part of Louisville. I’ve seen his guys canvassing our neighborhood at least half a dozen times in the last few weeks. I haven’t seen anybody from Rand’s group. I do get daily phone messages from both, though. Yesterday, it was a message from Dr. James Dobson supporting Trey Grayson. Now he may convinced of his “unwavering commitment to the sanctity of human life and the protection of the family” but I’m not so convinced. Apparently, I’m not the only one—I would think Dobson and Palin would be on the same page as far as candidates.
