DDT and Population Control
The Wall St Journal ^ | Apr 25, 2010 | editorial

...

Earth Day founder Gaylord Nelson, a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, was a leading opponent of the insecticide DDT, which remains the cheapest and most effective way to combat malarial mosquitoes. Rachel Carson's 1962 book, "Silent Spring," misleadingly linked pesticides to cancer and is generally credited with popularizing environmental awareness. But other leading greens of the period, including Nelson, biologist Paul Ehrlich and ecologist Garrett Hardin, were also animated by a belief that growth in human populations was harming the environment.

"The same powerful forces which create the crisis of air pollution also are threatening our freshwater resources, our woods, our wildlife," said Nelson. "These forces are the rapid increase in population, industrialization, urbanization and scientific technology." In his book "The Population Bomb," Mr. Ehrlich criticized DDT for being too effective in reducing death rates and thus contributing to "overpopulation." Hardin opposed spraying pesticides in the Third World because "every life saved this year in a poor country diminishes the quality of life for subsequent generations." For these activists, malaria was nature's way of controlling population growth, and DDT got in the way.

What goes unsaid is the left is practicing eugenics-like ideology again. But wait, they did say it didn't they? Malaria is seen as a good way to prevent all those pesky Africans from polluting the earth. It was OK for the left to use DDT on THEIR home way back when and surely if malria breaks out again, DDT will once again be used (but only for the enlightened ones). Next are those pesky Republicans.

And then there is AIDS.

Over population is the central focus for just about everything the UN and other leftist groups do. Hitlery has addressed it at least one time.

Eugenics lives on.

We let the mosquitoes and the AIDS virus do the work.

Cool, there hasn't been a good DDT thread in years. How about doing fluoride next?

” How about doing fluoride next?”

NOT USING DDT is about population control. USING fluorides is about population control. The Germans used fluorides to keep the Jews in the concentration camps docile. It is in municiple water supplies here...

Fluoride is poison. (Sufficient iodine levels in the body helps rid the body of fluorine)

DDT was used to control mosquitos when I was a kid - the trucks would come around the neighborhood spraying DDT. None of us had ill-effects from the DDT and we enjoyed the reduced mosquito population.

There are things that will help deal with malaria and AIDS, but woe to anyone who actually promotes/does it.

The ban of DDT is to keep the people living in cities and not spoiling Gaia ... Meanwhile, a million African Children under age 5 die each year, for another liberal lie, the throughly debunked Carson book “Silent Spring”.

In 2006 WHO after over 30 years of trying to find the demons caused by DDT, came up empty and allowed DDT limited use. The body count got too high for even them.

Come to think of it, I can’t figure out anything liberals have said that hasn’t turned into a complete lie.

DDT? You’re joking right? All they need is some mosquito nets to put over the bed. I saw it on a TV commercial. It came on right after that one about the polar bears drowning.

Rachel Carson, William Ruckelshaus and the DDT ban have killed more people than Mao, Stalin, Hitler, & Pol Pot combined

But it was just black & brown people so that’s ok /s

Who could actually say such a thing ? He is talking about people's lives ! Proof ( as if we needed any more) that Environmentalism is evil at it's core. They hate people.

I had Dr Hardin for a class at UCSB back in the 60s. He was a very popular professor and generally came off as a nice guy. But he had a very cold-blooded view what should be done about over population. In his view, it was better the people die (or not even be born) then that they live to reproduce. He had some medical problem that required that he use crutches to get about. He was aware of the irony of his situation—if he had his way, people like him would not be allowed to live.

The only hope for the world is to make sure there is not another United States: We can’t let other countries have the same number of cars, the amount of industrialization, we have in the U.S. We have to stop these Third World countries right where they are. And it is important to the rest of the world to make sure that they don’t suffer economically by virtue of our stopping them.

—Michael Oppenheimer, Environmental Defense Fund

The continued rapid cooling of the earth since WWII is in accord with the increase in global air pollution associated with industrialization, mechanization, urbanization and exploding population.

—Reid Bryson, “Global Ecology; Readings towards a rational strategy for Man”, (1971)

We must make this an insecure and inhospitable place for capitalists and their projects…. We must reclaim the roads and plowed land, halt dam construction, tear down existing dams, free shackled rivers and return to wilderness millions of tens of millions of acres of presently settled land.

—David Foreman, Earth First!

If they slept 24/7 mosquito nets might work. Sure, mosquito nets are a good thing, but they will not stop malaria. DDT works.

DDT and Population Control

I coudn't get past the title on this when I saw it in the WSJ. To imply that banning DDT is in any way shape or form intended to be genocidal, as the title hints -- either ironically or not -- marks a new low point for the ever-diluting relevance of the Wall Street Journal.

I remember thinking, when I read the first left-wing rant on the editorial page; when I saw the first NYT-esque slant on the "news" pages, that this great paper was no longer so.

And that was in the late 1980's, right about when everything started its descent into the inner rings of hell.
