Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is urging Gov. Jan Brewer to sign the state immigration bill while continuing to mull a run for the states highest office.
Still, the sheriff says, he is hesitant to leave the post after 18 years in office. I dont desert my troops, Arpaio said. Arpaio says he will decide around May 1 on a potential run and that his wife is encouraging his bid. Im giving it a close look, Arpaio says, but points to the fact that the County Board of Supervisors would pick his replacement. Arpaio has had legal and political clashes with the board.
Arpaio favors Senate Bill 1070, which would forces police to arrest illegal immigrants for trespassing and make it a crime to pick up day laborers or transport illegal immigrants.
The bill is on the governors desk after passing through the Legislature.
How funny of him to say “I don’t leave my troops” and then second breath, “I will let you know if I will run for higher office and leave my troops by 1 May”...I wonder if the media distorted what he really said.
Time to sign it, Jan.
The media in Arizona almost universally hate Arpaio.
Most of the old media everywhere appear to hate all decency as far as I can tell.
Joe- Please stay where you are.
You will have more authority to do your job, and fewer people driving you nuts in another place.
Also- don’t leave that post open to politics from your local County Supervisors.
You have been elected—overwhelmingly—for a number of terms.
That proves just how good you are at what you do.
If you ever decide to retire- you could start a school to teach other LEO’s.
Thanks for that update. I thought that but you just cemented my thoughts.
It is possible that by obtaining a higher office he can do more administratively to help his troops.
I would vote for him for President-— in a heartbeat.
this son of a bisquick kneader outta run for King
I’ve said it many times-Sheriff Joe and John Bolton for President and VP-in either order.......
Right on.
Sheriff Joe Ping
While the opposite is true for the citizens of the state!:)
I think I’d like to see Sheriff Joe stay at his current post.
Ping!
