Poland will Survive this day

We Americans far too-often take our staunchest allies for granted, forgetting that we are not the only ones who – over the past 200-plus years of our relatively short existence – have been the standard bearers of freedom and democracy throughout the world.

Multiple nations and members of those nations’ worldwide diasporas have had a hand in it. And no nation on earth has struggled, suffered, and sacrificed more (yet survived) for the cause of freedom worldwide – nor been a better friend to America – than Poland.

Which is why this morning’s tragic plane crash in Russia – killing Polish Pres. Lech Kaczynski...and at least 95 others (including Ryszard Kaczorowski, Poland's exiled president during the decades of Communism, and many top Polish military and civilian officials) – grieves us all as Americans.

After all, Poland has been with us from the beginning, literally in the saddle, fighting and dying with us from Savannah to Afghanistan.

In fact, one would be hard-pressed to drive across the North American continent today and not see a monument, street, or some sort of namesake commemoration for Polish nobleman Casimir Pulaski, a general-officer in George Washington’s army during the American Revolution. Pulaski was killed leading a charge against British forces in the Battle of Savannah. He is today widely considered to be “the father of American cavalry.”

Then we have Gen. Thaddeus Kosciuszko, another hero of our revolution, said to be “the best engineer” in Washington’s army. Indeed, he designed plans for West Point.

And though often taking a back seat to the great battles of Europe and the Pacific during World War II, some of the most amazingly heroic resistance battles in all of history were waged by Polish fighters against Nazi occupation, as Poles say, “For our freedom and yours!”

Anyone who has ever heard of the Miracle at the Vistula understands what western Europe, indeed the world, owes Poland.

FACT: The United States has had no better ally than Poland.

General Thaddeus Kosciuszko 1746 - 1817 “Hero of America and Poland” does exemplify this.

I pray for the Polish people during this terrible time. I smell dishonesty already about the coverage of the plane crash that killed so many Polish leaders.

This tragedy will bring Poland and Russia closer together.

At this point I doubt it, hope I am terribly wrong.

The new administration is more pro-Russian than the fallen one.

They saved Western civilization from the Moslems at the Battle of Vienna, 12 September 1683.

They are an amazing nation. As a people, I admire them very much. What spurred those horrible jokes about them? Anti-immigrant/anti-Catholic bigotry maybe?

I know a friend in this country and I have not spoken with her in a very long time. I wish her country well and the people there.

I've been thinking we may be needing them again. God bless our brave Polish friends.

Its amazing how people are trying to blame the Poles themselves for having the "reputation" as having subhuman intelligence because of the Polish "jokes" that Hollywood and certain left-wing media has pushed over the years especially when Poland was starting to resist the Soviet Union which Hollywood has historic sympathies for.

Polish "jokes" originated from Nazi German propaganda that Poles have subhuman intelligence. Hitler felt the Poles had subhuman intelligence because they were Slavic and hated the Nazi Germans. Hitler then tried to implement this racist stereotype of Poles into reality by killing Poland's educated class first.

Ironically Hollywood introduced these racist Polish "jokes" into America because of Hollywood's hatred of Poland due to Hollywood's left-wing communist sympathies. Poland is a conservative, Catholic , anti-communist country that Hollywood loved to hate especially in the 1970's when they introduced anti-Polish propaganda in their movies and through late-night bigots on TV. Although this anti-Polish hatred still exists it has only declined from the mainstream because Polish Americans have protested this anti-Polish hatred.
