House Democrats are working with the White House to craft an executive order that would clarify President Obama's intention to maintain a long-standing ban on federal funding of abortion, congressional Democrats said. The effort was part of a hurried campaign by House leaders on Saturday to persuade a pivotal bloc of antiabortion Democrats to support far-reaching health insurance reforms.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and others huddled in a suite of offices just off the House floor, trying to come up with language that would satisfy six to 10 lawmakers, mostly Rust Belt Catholics, who voted for an earlier version of the health-care package but have threatened to vote against the $940 billion compromise expected to come before the House on Sunday. Those lawmakers have argued that the measure would open the door to federal funding for elective abortions. Democratic leaders counter that the measure would do no such thing.

That tells me they are still short.
YOU LIE!
But how will the rabid left react to this?
Ace of Spades says he’ll make them one of macaroni and glue..it’s stupid..of not effect because it can be removed at any time.
They won’t care because they know it will be rescinded one second after the vote.
how long ago was this article. Seemed to have read something about this earlier.
At least that Nancy fears deeply that there will be too many defectors, Rats who chicken out with November heavily on their minds.
Or, that, disgusted with her, some Rats join the GOP in asking for a filibuster, an actual debate filibuster.
Charlie, I won’t pull the football this time.
They better remember that Clinton did this to the GOP once.
“Executive orders” don’t mean jack from this guy. The old catch all, “threatens the life of the mother”, means that taxpayer dollars will fund abortions if Obamacare passes. The commie ‘RATS know that.
Given how 'honest' Obama is I would jump at that offer... you frikin' morons!
Abortion is the only thing holding back the votes of these representatives? Please don’t mis-understand me, but it seems that there are a few other issues that could be troublesome that should derail the legislation prior to even entertaining a discussion of abortion. I hope that the constituents of these representatives see through this blatant pandering.
If it was the President’s ‘intention’ to continue the ban on abortion, he would have put it into ‘law’.
Yup, I agree; tHey are still short.
Didn’t dear leader (the signer of an anti-abortion EO?) vote for PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTIONS as a senator??? Claim women should not be penalized by a “mistake”. Who in their right mind would trust them????!!!!
Exec Order to provide funding, yeah thats constitutional.
Is there any reason why Stupak or any of his crowd should trust Obama's word on anything?
If they are indeed serious on the abortion issue, Stupak et al will not seek cover behind a spurious (and likely temporary) executive order issued by the Liar-in-Chief.
Keep praying!
Exactly. It's a head fake to get around the pro-abortion crowds objection to inclusion of Stupak language in the Rec bill.
“”The effort was part of a hurried campaign by House leaders on Saturday to persuade a pivotal bloc of antiabortion Democrats to support far-reaching health insurance reforms. “”
And it tells me that they LIE when they say it’s not in the bill....
Gee, before they were "anti-choice". Now, that they could be pivotal in passing the bill, WaPo calls them "Rust Belt Catholics". How quaint.
Memo to the Stupac 12 - pass this monstrosity and you'll regret it. They'll trample any promise you were given faster than you can say "deem and pass". Did their last promise hold up or are you willing to be fooled again?
Even IF Obama promised to issue exec order, future Presidents can rescind that order. Even IF Obama issued exec order, it mIGHT not withstand a lawsuit challenging its legality since it goes against settled case law on the issue. I saw a good letter about this from a law professor somewhere today. will try to locate
Oh, answered my own question......Yeah, trust this guy’s OE on abortion funding—very thin veil on legitimacy for these “pro-life” dems if they vote for the bill with an EO on abortion funding from this likely Planned Parent lifetime achievement member. Stoke of the pen, law of the land? Well, stoke of Whiteout, not an OE anymore :(
I remember that comment. he was talking about his daughters. it made my blood run cold. the MSM remained in it's hypnotic trance.
Will Stupak stand firm?
This seems like a Hail Mary on the part of Pelosi. She doesn't have the votes.
The stages the Dems are going through with this bill reminds me of someone vomiting. Just when it seems like there is nothing left down there, up comes just a little more vile liquid.
"They wont care because they know it will be rescinded one second after the vote"
The EO will have an expiration date close to the life expectancy of a house fly. They have to know it!
And yes, as of the timestamp on this story, I tink they are still short or votes. Yessssssssssssssssss!
stoke=stroke? Too upset to type!!!!
Wonder how many times his Mama called him her mistake.
Saw this on Fox News.com:
“In the words of Ronald Reagan, ‘they may not have seen the light, but they certainly felt the heat,” he said in a written statement.”
I don’t think so. I think Stupak and company are dying to vote for this bill.
Pelosi won’t put Stupak’s anti abortion language in the bill fix. She won’t even allow a vote on that, because she will lose the pro choicers. However, she can’t win without both sides, so she gets Obama to sign a piece of paper to placate the pro lifers. I hope they won’t fall for it.
That's what I think. Her comment about "the bill is the bill" and not considering any more deal making suggest she knows it's a f*cked hat and is close to getting out of hand. G-d knows if Stupak gives this Hail Mary has any merit.
Is it even constitutional?????????????

This is from a 2007 contact list of congressional aides. Some might not be there any longer, but worth a try. The ones on the one post are senate aides, a few have bounced back, its worth the effort to clog up their email system along with the phones, and 1/3rd of these senators are up for re-election.

Remember they are all being offered BRIBES for their votes. Ask them how much their bribe price is.
The National Republican Congressional Committee has published a target list on health care. In addition to continuing to contact the five Tennessee Democrat Congressmen, you can go http://www.votervoice.net/link/clickthrough/ext/94697.aspx to contact some of these targets. Much of the talk following Obamas announcement has focused on how to defeat this second bill through reconciliation, but that is misleading because the first step to defeating Obamacare is not by concentrating on defeating the fixer bill but by defeating the Senate bill in the House when it goes to the floor for an up-or-down vote on Sunday March 21st.

And here are toll-free numbers we can use to call any Senators or Reps.
At the first number below you must wait through a tape recording urging you to tell your Rep or Senator to vote yes for the health care bill. Just hang on and when the recording is over, you will get the Capitol operator. Just ask for your Rep or Senators office. Then you will either talk to an aid or have the chance to leave a message for him/her to vote NO on the health care bill.
When you use the second number and the Capitol operator comes on, just ask for your Rep or Senators office. Every time I use this number I get the Rep or Senators answer machine, so it may be set up that way all the time...to go to their answer machine. Either way you can leave a message to vote NO on the health care bill!
We need to use these toll free numbers that have been set up for the health care/ BO supporters and illegals to use! After all they are FREE!

It’s not clear that such an executive order would be valid.
Only Congress can make a law; the President cannot unilaterally make a law.
The President is only permitted by law to issue regulations within the scope of discretion granted by Congress or otherwise with authority under the Constitution.
I wonder what law, if any, the President claims gives him the power to make such a broad executive order which is in the nature of a law.
I suspect that there is no sound authority, and that this is another dishonest, unlawful abuse of power by the socialist usurpers.
Thanks for the heads up. I’ve long sense printed the numbers from your terrific post. Thanks again.
They’ve been updated to the best of my ability to find it here.
What you say is true. I can see Stupak wanting a lot more expansion on this issue if he is to agree. If anything, this could postpone the vote into next week.
It also tells me the Dems have short mindedness.
I always refer to you when I need numbers. Thumbs up
I always thought the "catch-all" was the "health" of the mother, which could mean mental health or almost anything.
You’re correct and you don’t need a law professor to tell you.
It's moment to moment with these people.. and the ends always justify the means. Absolutely no restraint or principled consideration.
This is all nothing more than speculation. Obama and his minions are jubilantly talking about the historic vote tomorrow to bring health care reform as if it is a done deal. They WOULD NOT expend all of their political capitol like they are if they did not have the votes to pass. They would have mud all on their faces. This is a done deal. It’s time for everyone to get over it and start to figure out a way to get us out of this mess before it’s too late for us all.
There’s a difference between having the votes and being drunk on Saki.
But if Stupak and his seven hold and actually defeat this bill, then I will have to revise my maxim that there is no such thing as a "moderate" or "good" Democrat.
People here are dreaming and on drugs if they think this thing won’t pass tomorrow. I said it a million times before. I saw it typed here time and time....This bill won’t pass the house, well it won’t pass the senate....It will never make any further than the senate now that Scott Brown was elected.
People here need to wake up to the political reality that we live in and stop dreaming that what is about to happen won’t happen. Tyranny is afoot and we are all in a whole lot of trouble.
G-d works is mysterious ways. I hope you’re wrong. I was there when Elway had his 97 yard drive in the snow. People were just shaking their heads.
There is much confusion in the reporting of who is voting, and which way the votes are stacking up. Of course people want to believe that this won’t pass. I hope it won’t pass.
But if it does pass, then we truly are in a world of hurt for a generation at least. So, a few more days of praying, and watching, and hoping won’t hurt.
I pray it won’t pass.
