House Democrats are working with the White House to craft an executive order that would clarify President Obama's intention to maintain a long-standing ban on federal funding of abortion, congressional Democrats said. The effort was part of a hurried campaign by House leaders on Saturday to persuade a pivotal bloc of antiabortion Democrats to support far-reaching health insurance reforms.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and others huddled in a suite of offices just off the House floor, trying to come up with language that would satisfy six to 10 lawmakers, mostly Rust Belt Catholics, who voted for an earlier version of the health-care package but have threatened to vote against the $940 billion compromise expected to come before the House on Sunday. Those lawmakers have argued that the measure would open the door to federal funding for elective abortions. Democratic leaders counter that the measure would do no such thing.

They won’t care because they know it will be rescinded one second after the vote.

At least that Nancy fears deeply that there will be too many defectors, Rats who chicken out with November heavily on their minds.

Or, that, disgusted with her, some Rats join the GOP in asking for a filibuster, an actual debate filibuster.

“Executive orders” don’t mean jack from this guy. The old catch all, “threatens the life of the mother”, means that taxpayer dollars will fund abortions if Obamacare passes. The commie ‘RATS know that.

"House Democrats are working with the White House to craft an executive order that would clarify President Obama's intention to maintain a long-standing ban on federal funding of abortion, "

Given how 'honest' Obama is I would jump at that offer... you frikin' morons!

Abortion is the only thing holding back the votes of these representatives? Please don’t mis-understand me, but it seems that there are a few other issues that could be troublesome that should derail the legislation prior to even entertaining a discussion of abortion. I hope that the constituents of these representatives see through this blatant pandering.

If it was the President’s ‘intention’ to continue the ban on abortion, he would have put it into ‘law’.

That tells me they are still short.

Is there any reason why Stupak or any of his crowd should trust Obama's word on anything?

If they are indeed serious on the abortion issue, Stupak et al will not seek cover behind a spurious (and likely temporary) executive order issued by the Liar-in-Chief.

Exactly. It's a head fake to get around the pro-abortion crowds objection to inclusion of Stupak language in the Rec bill.
