AN AUSTRALIAN woman is being deported from the US because her son punched a classmate and stole 53 cents.
Tracey Washington and her two sons, aged 13 and 5, will be kicked out on Friday under a controversial San Francisco policy that forced the city's juvenile authorities to turn the elder child over to federal US Immigration and Customs officials.
Mrs Washington moved to San Francisco from Melbourne in February last year to marry Charles Washington, 42, whom she met on holidays six years ago.
However, Mrs Washington and the boys were declared illegal immigrants in May after she missed the cut-off to apply for a green card. Mrs Washington claims immigration officials gave her the wrong deadline.
The problem only came to light after her 13-year-old son was arrested on suspicion of assault, robbery and extortion after a schoolyard incident in January.

Where’s Aunt Zetuni?
And yet MA pays for illegal Auntie Zeituni, and WE pay for illegal alien Barack Hussein Obama to stay in government housing!
She should have told ‘em she was from Mexico City...all is well...
Since they’re married, can Mr. Washington move back to Australia with the lady and her sons? I’m sure it’s much nicer there than in San Franscisco.
“Mrs Washington and the boys were declared illegal immigrants in May after she missed the cut-off to apply for a green card.”
NOTHING else in the article amounts to a hill of beans.
Yup. Change her name to Lupe Lopez, call ACLU then sue govt. Case closed.
Actually, I’m for sending her back, but it’s a bad situation. Surely, illegals who crossed our borders illegally, are much more deserving of punishment. In this case, our laws used to allow married spouses to be residents without concern, I thought.
San Francisco is finally hitting back at illegals. Amazing.
The law isn’t that hard to understand. If you move into the country, and you want to stay, apply for your green card. I would recommend getting a lawyer to help with the process, if you are unable to figure out the deadlines for yourself and have to depend on a government worker for information.
The idea that they are being deported because the boy stole 53 cents and the parents of the other child filed a police report is silly. They should be deported because they are here illegally, not because of some stupid schoolhouse dust-up.
Let that be a lesson to DO THE PAPERWORK.
He could, except then he would lose custody of his daughter from another marriage.
See, part of this story is just the standard sad results of parents who think more of themselves than their children, and therefore marry the wrong people for the wrong reasons, have children, and then get divorced and remarried.
The man is divided between two families, almost as badly as if he was a polygamist, except he probably isn’t sleeping with his ex-wife, (but who knows)?
The article says he can’t move to Australia because of custody agreement with his ex-wife regarding his 12 year old daughter.
I don’t have lot of sympathy. We have enough home grown, American, teenage thugs. We don’t need to import more. Does the fact that the victim was only carryng 53 cents, instead of $53.00 or $530.00, make his crime any less severe?
>>San Francisco is finally hitting back at illegals. Amazing.
It’s not. SF has been designated a “sanctuary city” by Newsom. You can even get an ID from the city, for the illegals, no questions asked. The Feds just happen to make an example that they are doing their jobs, and a white person, for pc purposes was perfect.
The fair skinned ones anyway.
This doesn’t make any sense. San Francisco is a sanctuary city and doesn’t enforce this “policy” on juvenile offenders, even if they are murderers. Remember the three members of the Bologna family who were killed by the illegal immigrant there? There is something wrong with this story.
I don’t have a problem with the woman being deported. Nor does the Australian government. If she didn’t have the right immigration status she should be deported (she claims she was poorly advised - that’s a separate issue, even if it did happen, the onus is still on her). But I do find it curious that it seems to have been so easy to deport her compared to many other people, and I think it probably illustrates how political the issue is - an effective political lobby allows the law to be neutered. As Australians don’t have such a lobby in America (why would we?) the law can function as its intended.
Let me guess - they are NOT Kenyan.
But she’s the wrong color illegal (or right one, depends on perspective).
I can see the ICE office giving her the wrong deadline. She’s married to an American FCOL. She should be allowed to stay, but it’s San Fran. Why would she want to?
Of course, one wonders whether their enthusiasm for strict enforcement of immigration laws is reserved for white folks, or folks with English surnames.
Tracey Washington with her 5-year-old son and husband Charles
Mr Washington said they waited until December to apply for her green card and legal residence because the application cost several thousand dollars, and a federal immigration office told them there was no filing deadline.
But he said officials then refused to consider the application because it was filed more than 90 days after his wife entered the US.
Mr Washington said he would stay in San Francisco to look after his 12-year old daughter, whose custody he shares with her mother.
