In an unusual and interesting move, the White House reached out this morning to Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) to invite her to summit.
But Snowe declined because she wasn't invited by the Senate leadership, and thought it would be inappropriate.
A statement from her spokesman, John Gentzel:
Senator Snowe did receive a call from the White House this morning to attend tomorrows bipartisan health care summit. While she greatly appreciates the invitation, the Republican leadership understood the rules of the summit, as established by the Administration weeks ago, were that the Democratic and Republican leadership would select their own members to participate in the event. The Republican leadership had long since selected their team and therefore, it would have been inappropriate for Senator Snowe, under those circumstances, to accept the invitation. This is a summit between the leadership and the President and she believes it is a critical opportunity for the respective leadership teams to convey their ideas directly with the President. Throughout this process, Senator Snowe has been sharing her views with the White House and she assured the White House today that she will continue to play a leadership role on this vital issue in the days and weeks after tomorrows event.
Yep ... I concur.
I think they simply wanted to have a Republican coming as their invitee, just like Rep. Stupak (D) coming as Republican invitee.
They know the procedure. They’re simply trying to create division again, playing her against the party, seeking out what they perceive is the most vulnerable.
Divide and conquer...
Doesn’t anyone in that administration follow any protocol or is it because they don’t know it? They’re like the keystone cops! I used to think they did these things deliberately but now believe they’re totally clueless. Anyway, they really did put her in a very awkward position where she had to snub them.
I’m thinking now that we give them too much credit.
Bingo ! WAAAYYYY too much credit.
They're not clueless - they're desperate. They still control the tactics but have lost strategic power and they're panicking as they see the tidal wave coming at them. To the very last second, they'll shove a sneering Pelosi in front of the cameras to declare an easy, laughing victory - right up until the wave hits. Lying vermin scum are lying vermin scum - they don't know any other way.
Like him or not, Bush 43 rolled up his sleeves and went to work........
:}
I was talking about protocols, this episode, the crashers at the Indian dinner stuff, can’t think of more, too tired, but the things that require knowing the basics. None of them have ever run a business and all they know is the Chicago thuggery way. Let’s put it this way - no business savvy, manners, or even commonsense for that matter. They’re in over their head in more ways than one...one of them being what you’re talking about of which I agree.
Snowe doesn’t appear to think much of the Bummer.
It doesn’t matter what stops you pull on the organ if the whole thing is out of tune.
Snowe was dissed by Reid on her trigger option and she was livid. Sounds like their trying to cross over a bridge that they burned long ago.
The Dems will pick exactly the ones Repubs want to be there, and Repubs will pick the ones the Dems least want to be there. >Bo)
