Run, Mort, run! (against Gillibrand)
NY Post ^ | February 15, 2010 | Masthead Editorial

Posted on 02/15/2010 2:28:08 PM PST by neverdem

The emergence of real-estate magnate -- and Daily News Publisher -- Mortimer Zuckerman as a potential candidate for the United States Senate is an event all New Yorkers of good will can welcome.

This isn't an endorsement of Zuckerman's candidacy. Indeed, it's not at all clear that he'll even make the run.

But here's hoping he does.

The Senate seat in question is now held by David Paterson protégé -- and Chuck Schumer hand puppet -- Kirsten Gillibrand. She's an upstate cipher whose sole qualification for the job is that Paterson appointed her to it when Hillary Rodham Clinton gave it up to join the Obama administration.

Zuckerman, on the other hand, is a heavyweight -- an internationalist with a firm grasp on the challenges facing the nation in that realm, a fierce supporter of Israel at a time of grave peril for that embattled nation and an experienced businessman with a clear appreciation of how much damage anti-growth fiscal policies can do to America.

New York has a proud tradition of sending superior people to the Senate...

This is a NY Post twist.

Mort is the publisher of the NY News, their chief rival. The NY Post is encouraging Mort to run off the cliff.

I love the NY Post!

Can't the Republicans come up with just one decent candidate in New York?

We should be taking at least one and possibly both of these seats this year!

The NY GOP remains in shambles. People are pressing Larry Kudlow to run. Coincidentally, Kudlow will be an honoree at the NYYRC 7th Annual Ronald Reagan Birthday Celebration & Awards Dinner on Wednesday.

I will be an internationalist when I am the last man standing and we have invaded by martians. After we have fed everyone else to them and they are coming after me.

Why is Guiliani not running? Even Lazio would be somewhat formidable. The Pubbies are going to mess around & let this opportunity get away from them.

“Can’t the Republicans come up with just one decent candidate in New York?”

That’s what I was thinking. It is so frustrating. Is there anyone you like that you wish would run?

Mort voted for Obama, but at least he realizes that Obama isn’t such a good president now.

Mort is a social liberal which is why I would never support him.

Two obvious choices to likely win are Giuliani and Pataki. Lazio would probably have a good chance. Those more connected than I with NY politics and personalities can probably come up with others. There are no doubt some other good people who could be good candidates.

C'mon. This is Chuck The Schmuck and Gillibrand we are talking about in what is developing to be a GOP blowout year.

Why waste this golden opportunity?

Thanks but no thanks.

I’m afraid Giuliani, Pataki and Lazio aren’t conservative enough for a red neck like me, which is why I’m so frustrated. We finally have that “golden opportunity,” so I hope at least two strong prolife, conservative candidates come forward.

I do like John Faso, but don’t know if he’s interested in running for the U.S. Senate seat.
