PRINCETON, NJ -- More than one-third of Americans (36%) have a positive image of "socialism," while 58% have a negative image. Views differ by party and ideology, with a majority of Democrats and liberals saying they have a positive view of socialism, compared to a minority of Republicans and conservatives.

No doubt most of them are under 30.
Clearly, 36% of Americans have no knowledge of Soviet Russia, World War II, etc. What do you expect from our government run schools?
Well, take that 36%, add all the liberals that could have been left out (in the previous figure), and then add to it all the blacks in the country... and you’ve got the numbers that voted for Obama... :-)
36% of the people are mis-educated morons.
Looks like the first wave of students, fully-indoctrinated by our “Progressive” educational system, have come of age.
They are thinking Socializing. Partying man. Duhhh.
The poll makes no sense - there are more conservatives that like socialism than republican-leaners???
The only reason anyone has a “positive view” is because they have not lived under the heavy hand of a socialist gubmint.
They should ask the same question, but use the word “communism” and see what the results are. Not much difference between the two ideologies, but the media has worked hard to sell socialism as acceptable to the masses at large.
One third of the population should leave for say ... England, France - Europe in general to live under it if it’s so great .... would sure take care of the unemployment problem ..
Too bad they didn’t ask how many of them would like to go live in a socialist country — right now. The response would likely be near 0%.
Actually, this poll is good news. Despite the cultural hammering of prejorative terms like “big business”, it is still clear Americans strongly favor capitalism and hate big government.
36% sounds big, but it is still a small percentage. The big problem is, people don’t like socialism, but they don’t seem to recognize a lot of it when they see.
For instance, those of us who follow the things Obama does know he is a socialist. But the casual person who does not like “socialism” doesn’t realize it. And the MSM actively works to hide his radical roots and ideologies.
Agreed. Hard to believe any Republican would view Socialism with a positive, and Rinocity is a political aberration within the Leftist GOP elites I believe.
Oh well, I don’t believe much in polls anyway other than it seems Rasmussen tries.
Good post.
The caller then said that Rush was "wrong" when he said people from Canada come here for there medical care.
Rush was not on his game and did not bring up this news item from this week:
Danny Williams going to U.S. for heart surgery (Canadian Premier bypasses Socialism) (2/2/10 | CBC Staff)
I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and I still shake my head that a stunning 36% of Americans believe socialism is good.
Most of those for it already pay little or no taxes. Freeloaders who think if all are poor it would be fair.
It’s time for those of us who believe in Capitalism to stand up and defend it. There is no reason why this many Americans should be so misinformed (well, no reason besides the fact that they have spent 12 - 16 yrs in a liberal-dominated school system learning about the “evils” of Capitalism, not to mention the non-stop anti-Capitalist messages from Hollywood).
It is time to stand up and speak these truths:
The free market (Capitalism) did not cause this crisis, the government (Socialism/Communism) did.
The free market did not create Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae and Sallie Mae, the government did.
The free market did not pass laws that force banks to lend to those who do not qualify for a loan, the government did.
The free market did not take us off the gold standard, the government did.
The free market did not dump trillions of dollars of cheap money into the system causing the largest asset bubble in history, the government did.
The free market did not create multiple multi-trillion-dollar unfunded entitlement programs, the government did.
The free market did not write a 60,000+ page tax code that punishes work, rewards sloth and buys the votes of special interest groups, the government did.
The free market did not destroy our public school system and graduate (or fail to graduate) generations of civically and financially illiterate citizens, the government did.
The free market did not drive our jobs overseas and kill our entrepreneurial spirit with over-taxation, over-regulation and frivolous lawsuits, the government did.
The free market did not ban drilling for oil, vilify coal and block the building of nuclear power plants in the United States, thereby transferring hundred of billions of dollars of American wealth and many thousands of energy-industry jobs to foreign countries, the government did.
This crisis is the result of a giant social engineering experiment and vote-buying scheme gone tragically wrong.
The free market does not try to engineer society or buy votes, the government does.
The government caused this crisis, the free market did not.
The government cannot fix the crisis, the free market can.
