So the criminal just aims for the bright green light?

If the light is red he just laughs as he beats you to death with your useless piece of metal.

Problem is politicians are passing so many laws inventing ways to make citizens unintentional criminals you might just get picked off by an overzealous cop.

Bad idea. Stupid idea. Ok, only cops should be required to use this. It _might_ save their lives if a perp snatches their gun. But, of course, as the cop is trying to snatch the gun back, the watch will probably be in sufficient proximity to the gun to activate it.

What if you are left handed and wear your watch on your non shooting hand?

I bet I could make a killing (umm... think I need a better word) with something that jams the gun-watch link.

After all, one would NEVER need to have firearms for protection when not wearing your watch!!!

Simple mechanical devices rarely fail.

Electronic devices fail regularly.

The idea is idiotic, IMO.

Is the watch shock resistant?

How about the biometric electronics?

Geez those crafty Germans...try these suckers on the French first. They were better off working on green energy then this crap!

Yeah, right! You can't "test" a weapon by giving it to the French -- you'd never know if it worked or not cause they'd never actually fire it!

Did you hear the French army is temporarily out of commission? There was a fire at the white flag factory.

I have a better idea than this.

Just don’t give your pistol to suspicious looking strangers who approach you in dark alleys...

So now if any one of several weak links (the watch, batteries, electronics in the gun) fail, you're dead.

Unless you have five minutes, in which case you open up the gun and add a jumper wire around the electronics, or just remove the mechanical part that disables the gun from firing. IOW, standard response to a liberal idea.

Now if you were actually expecting this liberal-contrived bull$hit to work, and it died on you at just the wrong time, THEN you're dead.

“To activate the wrist watch, the authorized person’s fingerprint must first be read by the wrist watch..."

I was just thinking how much of a PITA the biometric scanner on my office computer is. I keep disabling the fingerprint swipe thingy (I'd prefer to just key in a password) and the IT drones keep resetting it. In cold weather, my hands get very dry and the skin peels on my fingertips - makes it tough to get a good scan. Same thing if you cut your finger.

This is one o' them there solutions in search of a problem.

This seems like a really good idea.

Uh, no. It's not.

No biggy. They'll just come up with a module that gun owners will be required to have surgically implanted in their anuses.

Changing the batteries might be a pain, but it will be right in the middle of everything, so no more worrying about which hand to wear the watch on.

Technology fails. Guns fail often enough on their own. Add the two together and guns will no longer be an accpetable means of defense as they will be unreliable.

From the user manual for this gun.....

.... upon pressing the trigger, the fingerprint of the firer is read. Please make sure to roll the finger SMOOTHLY along the entire length of the trigger so a good print is taken, or the firearm WILL NOT FIRE. The firearm will then use it's broadband internet access to consult NCIC FBI computers to consult if the firer is A) The legitimate owner, B) Permitted to own firearms, and C) Has no outstanding warrants or traffic tickets. If the firearm is displaying the yellow flashing warning light, the broadband access is not connected and the firearm WILL NOT FIRE. If a connection is refused by the NCIC FBI computer, OR if the firer does not pass background checks, the red flashing light will activate, indicating that the firearm WILL NOT FIRE. If this condition is seen, please reboot the firearm, remove and replace the magazine, and start the process again, beginning with the rolling of your fingerprint SMOOTHLY over the ENTIRE LENGTH of the trigger, and try again.

Assuming that all these conditions are met, the firer will have a retinal scan performed by the lens module at the rear of the firearm. PLEASE MAKE SURE THE LENS IS CLEAN AND NO SUNGLASSES, PERSCRIPTION GLASSES, OR CONTACT LENSES ARE WORN, or the retinal scan will fail and the firearm WILL NOT FIRE. A failed retinal scan will be indicated by the flashing blue light. Upon a successful retinal scan, the identity of the firer will be crosschecked with the identity of the owner as recorded in the onboard SIM card. Make sure the SIM card is firmly seated, or the firearm WILL NOT FIRE. In the event the SIM card is seated incorrectly or the retinal scan malfunctions, reboot the firearm, remove and replace the magazine, and start the process again, beginning with......
