There has been much discussion and talk about Sarah Palin's endorsement of John McCain's 2010 reelection campaign on Free Republic. To me it appears most people here at Free Republic seem to accept that descison as a move of loyalty to McCain for picking her as his 2008 running mate and would still like to see Sarah move on be the Republican party's nominee for President in 2012.
Up until last week I was hoping Sarah Palin would be able to rise above the series of bad press, negative attacks, lies and smears to be our next President. I found her to be the nearly perfect Conservative to lead the party. But now I have taken a step back and have taken a more of lets wait and see who she really is attitude. The McCain endorsement changed everything including my perception of Sarah Palin's commiment to the conservative cause.
Now I'm not about to trash her. I still believe her to an upstanding, decent person and a patriotic American. I still admire her greatly for walking the walk on the pro life issue. I still love her way of speaking in terms all of us can understand. But now I question her, if not her commitment to conservatism, I question her judgement.
The move endorse McCain, possibly the US Senates biggest RINO, over a much more conservative J.D. Hayworth leaves me puzzeled. Loyalty or not, the move of someone who is a true conservative to support a man who has spent the last 20 years attacking and smacking conservatives in the face while reaching accross the aisle and embracing the ideas of his more liberal Democrat friends is wrong. If, for whatever reason, she feels some sort of loyalty to McCain, she doesn't necessarily have to endorse him. She could simply say something like "I respect Senator McCain and like him. He is a friend. But we are on opposite pages on the issues that matter most and to endorse him over someone who is more in step with me on the issues makes no sense." Simple as that.
But then I also question her loyalty to McCain. Since the defeat of the McCain-Palin ticket many of McCains surrogats including Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace have appeared on various news shows and have attacked Sarah. While his surrogats attack her, John McCain has not come out and rebuked them or stood up for Sarah. McCain himself went on Letterman and was asked who he felt potential candidates for President in 2012. He intentionally left Sarahs name off his list. He won't defend Sarah Palin, but her wil defend is opponent Barack Obama by telling a skeptical audience Obama is a "good and decent man". Oh, I know he just defended her a day or so before her important endorsement, but that was only because he needed her. I think Sarah is once again allowing herself to be used by McCain and I question why she would allow herself to be treated like that.
We also have to look at the bigger picture. We all know John McCain is an open borders, pro amnesty for illegals guy along with his RINO buddies Lindsey Graham and Charlie Crist. We all know he is anti free speech as his and Russ Fiengolds beloved Campaign Finance Reform bill proves. His a Global Warmin theorist and has voice support for Cap and Trade legislation. Sarah needs to realize when you endrorse a candidate, you endorse their policies. You can't have it both ways.
This brings me to Charlie Crist. We have a Republican primary battle between RINO Crist and a bright, intelligent, attractive and conservative candidate Marco Rubio for the Florida Republican Senatorial nomination. Sarah has not endorsed Rubio. At least not yet. But will she before he either defeats Crist or Crist drops out? Is this part of her loyalty to McCain to not endorse his buddies opponent?
If Sarah were to endorse Rubio, I believe it would be the death stake in Charlie Crists heart. Rubio would win the primary in a walk. But she hasn't done it. I have to wonder if it's because Crist is McCains personal friend.
I'm not saying we should turn our backs on Sarah Palin, but we have to be true to our standards and question her. The last three months has seen the conservative movement gain the kind of traction it hasn't had since Ronald Reagan in 1980. In fact I believe we are witnessing a stronger conservative rise than in 1980. We can't sit by and let one of our own set us back but supporting a RINO over a true conservative.
Free Repubics founder Jim Robinson has stated many times on this site Free Republic is a conservaitve site and does not support RINO's. Sarah Palin, as a conservtive, shouldn't either. We who have stood by her now need to hold her to that.
Uh Oh..... another Palin/McCain thread.... You don’t think this has been beaten to death as of yet?
Although I have not met Governor Palin, in my opinion, her support of McCain for AZ senator is simply a case of professional loyalty toward the man who courageously plucked her from political obscurity and gave her a national stage upon which to shine.
She may yet endorse Rubio in FL. She backed Hoffman in NY23.
Up until last week I was hoping Sarah Palin would be able to rise above the series of bad press, negative attacks, lies and smears to be our next President.
That is why i like her,the Media hates her and your OP is all over the place...
BTW Mr Robinson might not like you calling it “Free Repubics”
Oh goody, yet another thread.
I’ll put it this way, Sarah Palin is not Jesus Christ. Almost everyone here voted for or supported McCain in some way in the last election.
She has her reasons, and while I may not agree with this particular decision, there are far bigger fish to fry.
Sarah Palin already said that she looked at Rubio’s resume and said expect to see some news soon...I believe that it was just a month ago during her book tour...and yes, I’m tired of these McCain/Palin threads not because of people’s opinions but it has beat to death within a week already
Technically, Hayworth hasn't filed yet. You never know, there may be another party on the horizon who is just as, if not more Conservative, with less baggage, and more liked. The game is early... Surprises are in store.
That was one GREAT and TRUE statement!!
I too am stepping back and watching. She has put a thorn in my side with this.
Our country being destroyed by Obingo and his Chicago thugs and we get 100 threads every day about a conservative.
Interesting that you have two working IDs....
I don’t think there is video or audio, this started based on a statement she would campaign with him. (I believe the release was ‘stump for him’).
But...but.....
I have it from good authority by our 1%ers that all her supporters "worship" her..........
“I dont want to piss in everyones Cheerios but Brown is going to lose. Massachusettes, Rhode Island, Vermont and Connecticuit will never again send a Republican to congress.

“I think Coakly has it in the bag. Every single poll shes at or very near 50% and........ITS MASSACHUSETTES!!!!
Does everyone here at Free Republic really think the people of the state that gave us John Kerry, Mike Dukakis and tolerated murder, drunkeness and blatant anti-Americanism from Ted Kennedy for 46 years are really going to send a Republican to the US Senate????

“I have alot of family in RI and an Aunt and Uncle who live in Needham (just outide of Boston) and they say the same thing you do about the campaign. But still they say they will be stunned if MA puts a Republican in the Senate.

And it goes on.
Astroturfing anyone?
Amen brother....so much stuff going on to be concerned about something we disagree with Sarah about....
BTW Chris Matthew just today asked JD about Sarah backing McCain. JD answered “we all understand gratitude in politics” and he understands that Sarah felt gratitude for McCain bring her into the national stage. He would welcome Sarah to the state, but opined that in the end it would be up to the Arizona republicans that would elect the nominee and not outsiders e.g. Scott Brown, Palin or anyone else.......
be disappointed but lets move on
I still have not heard whether Palin endorsed McCain before or after Hayworth announced his intent to run. If she endorsed McCain first, this places her in a potentially difficult spot. Be that as it may, she’s earned the right to endorse whoever she wants (within reason). She remains a terrific asset to the articulation and practice of conservative principles.
Well said.
Its good to remember that the following have all been heroes at one time or another at FR:
Lindsy Graham
Alan Keyes
Mike Huckabee
Bob Barr
Pat Buchannon
Lucianne Goldberg
Little Green Footballs
Newt Gingrich
Mike Steele
