Sonic Cannon

Israel has developed a new non-lethal weapon; the Thunder Cannon. Light enough to be mounted in a cart, it uses a new Pulse Detonation Technology that combines LPG (liquefied natural gas) with air to create a sonic boom in a cannon type barrel. Each burst moves forward at 2,000 meters per second and lasts 300 milliseconds. The cannon generates 60 to 100 bursts per second. One 27 pound (12kg) canister of LPG can create 5,000 bursts. A PDA size control unit does the mixing and detonation. The cannon is effective, at hitting people with these sonic bursts, at ranges of up to fifty meters (152 feet), and eventually double that. At ten meters or less, the burst can cause injury, or even be fatal. Anyone hit by the sonic bursts feels it, and hears it.

“Anyone hit by the bursts feels it.”

Hell, all the teenagers have these in their cars. I feel it everyday while stopped at the traffic lights.

Just wait until the Dems get their hands on this.

Only one thing can overcome it, and it won't be the ballot box.

Herge wrote a Tintin story about "sonic cannons" in the '50s, and there is a picture in the book that looks just like that photograph. I'm sure his story was based on the German's efforts.

Sounds like a relatively close copy of my trusty potato cannon.

I use 2” PVC, but with some propane it makes one hell of a BOOM and will throw a lime 2 1/2 blocks...

I suspect more like a pulse jet. An open on one end resonator that is 1/4 wavelength long.

The German “Wunderwaffen” was designed by Designed by Dr. Richard Wallauschek, the cannon consisted of large parabaloid reflectors, the final version of which had a diameter over 3m. The “dishes” were connected to a chamber composed of several sub-units firing tubes.
The function of these tubes was to allow an admixture of methane and oxygen into the combustion chamber, where the two gases were ignited in a cyclical, continuous explosion. The length of the firing chamber itself was exactly a quarter of the wavelength of the sound waves produced by the on-going explosions. Each explosion initiated the next by producing a reflected, high-intensity shockwave, and so creating a very high amplitude sound beam. This high and strong note of unbearable intensity was emitted at pressures in excess of 1,000 milibars about 50m away.

A school bus makes a better potato cannon. I stuffed a potato up the tail pipe of one in the school yard. It was unoccupied at the time. When the driver got in and started it, the engine seemed rough to him so he goosed the gas pedal, whereupon the bus loudly blasted the potato through the window of a house across the street from the school parking lot.

Some thoughts have a certain sound, that being the equivalent to a form. Through sound and motion, you will be able to paralyze nerves, shatter bones, set fires, suffocate an enemy or burst his organs. We will kill until no Harkonnen breathes Arakeen air.

Plus, afterward, the Israelis will be better able to eavesdrop, because the Arabs will be hard of hearing and shouting to be heard. Thanks sonofstrangelove.
